iPhone TV-out undocumented feature (video)

Erica Sadun from Ars Technica, found the undocumented TV-out feature in the latest version of the iPhone SDK. The featured gives you the ability to export video to a connected TV. Although the feature disables the touchscreen, it has great potential for bringing movies from your iPhone to any TV. The output is a much higher resolution that the iPhone screen, which may lead to frame-rate drops, but as you can see from the video, the concept is still impressive.

MySpace Mobile to offer free streaming video to mobile

Myspace Mobile now offers streaming video, bother user-gen and branded, to mobile. The service will be available for the BlackBerry Bold, Palm, Motorola Voyager, Nokia N95 and the Samsung Instinct. Notice no iPhone? That’s because the iPhone uses a different downloading method that MySpace opted out of in favor of a mobile ubiquitous downloading method.

Makers of mobile phone viral video scorned

Remember those videos of the kids popping popcorn with their mobile phones? Well it looked like a hoax and it turned out to be one. The video was meant as a viral marketing campaign to get people to buy more Bluetooth headsets. The logic was fairly simple in that if you can convince people to not put a phone to their ear, they’ll buy a headset.

About 5 months after the video was revealed as fake, the National Advertising Division (NAD) of the Council of Better Business Bureaus released a statement saying the following:

Vodafone BlackBerry Storm video

The Vodafone BlackBerry Storm 9500 is making the rounds and leaving a trail of videos and reviews in its wake. Something I’ve recently discovered about the BlackBerry Storm is that it has no pinch style zoom. The touch screen isn’t so much a touch screen, as it is a “push screen.” In order to type and interact with the phone, you need to physically push down the screen and click. If I want to zoom in and out, I have to select a menu option. The iPhone is superior in this respect. On the other hand, the BlackBerry Storm has cut and paste. Score!

This has got to be one of the best Windows Mobile devices out there. The HTC Touch HD has got such a nice screen and media capabilities and I can watch these video reviews all day. The first impressions of the phone clearly leave the reviewer taken aback by the screen and clean user interface. The device is shipping to customers in both Europe and Asia so expect a lot of videos like this. Highlights include:

  • Responsive touch screen
  • Bigger screen and better resolution than the iPhone
  • TouchFLO works fast and smoothly
  • An 8GB microSD card was included
