New touchscreen and QWERTY Motorola devices (rumor)

BGR posted leaked device shots for Verizon and they’re looking…well, very Motorola. I think the marketing department are being constantly told to make the phones look more “futuristic.” Don’t get me wrong, I like the fact that their phones are going touchscreen QWERTY. According to the source, the Moto Rush 2 QWERTY messaging phone will be available in Q1 2009. Release date for the rest of three mobile phones are not available at the moment. Oh yeah, and the award for biggest WTF in device name history goes to the Motorola Calgary.

How to save money on your phone bill

In order to get these discounts, you will have to be very bold with your carrier and make threats that you wouldn’t otherwise make. Remember, you are trying to tap into the customer retention plans and processes that carriers have in place to keep your business. If you don’t come across as frustrated and willing to walk away from it all, you’ve lost your ability to properly negotiate.

Verizon and Alltel to offer High Definition (HD) wallpapers

Babe

It was only a matter of time until carriers and devices started capitalizing on the HD trend. Although I’m not sure if many devices qualify as being technically HD, screen resolution is getting very good, very fast. In response to this, Verizon and Alltel are offering HD wallpapers via FunMobility.

The application let users pan and zoom stunning landscapes, illustrations, and even cut their own customized wallpaper for greater clarity and resolution — all in HD!

FunMo.com, will power the HD Wallpaper application, which can be downloaded directly from Verizon’s Get it Now or from Alltel Axcess shop for $3.99. Please visit FunMobility’s direct-to-consumer website for more information.

Senator Herb Kohl gets embarrassed over SMS debate

Senator Herb Kohl

A while back we reported about carriers charging for incoming text messages and how it was a violation of our rights to choose what we purchase. Recently, Senate Judiciary antitrust subcommittee Chairman Herb Kohl, sent a letter to the CEOs of AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile USA regarding the issue of increased SMS costs.

Kohl’s argument is that there has been a 10-cent increase over the last 3 years
for SMS messages and “Some industry experts contend that these increased rates do not appear to be justified by any increases in the costs associated with text messaging services, but may instead be a reflection of a decrease in competition, and an increase in market power, among your four companies.”

A ton of class-action lawsuits have followed since the letter went public and here is the great part: It’s complete nonsense. According to every single CEO, the cost of SMS messages has dropped by more than half. Clearly, Herb is jumping on a bandwagon of angry consumers who are too lazy to do the research.

BlackBerry Curve from Verizon in Pink

Verizon’s jumping on the pink BlackBerry bandwagon, now with the BlackBerry 8330 and the BlackBerry 8130 available in the new colour. Pink’s just about had its time with the BlackBerry lineup, but other colours are certainly on the way, like the recent sunset paint job on T-Mobile’s BlackBerry 8320, and a bunch of fresh colours are coming to their Pearls soon. If you’re in the market for something in pink, though, head on over to the Verizon Wireless online store for more details. The Curve is available for $99.99 and the BlackBerry Pearl $79.99, both on a two-year plan with online rebate.

Tickled pink? Check BlackBerry 8130 and BlackBerry 8330 specs behind the jump, along with some other colours that could be coming soon…
