Marantz IS301 iPhone and iPod dock launches in the UK

Marantz has launched the IS301 for the UK. The IS301 is a Lucullan wireless iPod dock that transmits both audio and video sans cabling and includes a port-filled receiver for tight-knit home theater integration. The Marantz IS30 works with iPods other than the touch or the iPhone and is also compatible with “almost” any A2DP-supporting mobile, it will be available from January 2009 for £220. I’m not sure if there will be a NA launch soon but we’re hoping.

nokia-n85-angle-1

The N85 sits somewhere between the N79 and the N96. The N85 even has a couple features that the N96 could learn from.

  • MicroSD card slot ready for a card up to 8GB in size
  • Assisted GPS for faster location times and geo-tagging of your pictures.

  • Expect the N85 to launch in the UK tomorrow, Friday, October 31st.

    Another Vodafone BlackBerry Storm commercial

Not much to say here, as the BlackBerry Storm hype train continues worldwide. If previous Storm news wasn’t enough to make you want the device, I doubt this video will push you over, but it is cool how they imply that the Storm gives you semi-super powers.

LG KC910 Renoir due for release October 15th

    LG KC910

I love writing about 8MP camera phones coming to the market because for the longest time the Internet was filled with horrible camera phone pictures. They’re always blurry to the point of mosaic. We’re now going through a time where the best party pics will be taken with the likes of an LG Renoir.

There is a lot of talk about how the LG Renoir is going to position itself against all the other touch screen consumer devices. The camera is the obvious edge on the market. The photography capabilities of this phone are sure to capture the attention of anyone who considers this a high priority. The camera is not only 8MP but it also has smile and blink detection which are sure to help your photos come out clear.

How classy is the name Renoir? Named after Mr Pierre-Auguste Renoir, a leader in the development of the Impressionist style, the Renoir is a great name to take to market. Stay tuned because the LG KC910 is set to launch October 15th in the UK.

Mobile TV (DMB) in South Korea

Jason DaPonte, is the Managing Editor for the BBC’s Mobile Platforms. I met him at Mobile Content 2008 in Seoul Korea, and I’ve started paying attention to his blog. He’s got a good post on mobile TV (DMB) in South Korea. Something I’ve also posted about and am really interested in.

Nokia N96 to launch in UK in only 2 weeks

The Nokia N95, easily one of the best devices out on the market right now, is going to launch in the UK in 2 weeks. The device was not only the first to have a 5 MP camera but it also packs Dual ARM 9 264 MHz CPU hardware, EDGE, Wi-Fi, and Symbian OS 9.3.

Another great quality of the device, is that it supports N-Gage. N-Gage titles have brought the world of mobile gaming to a huge number of consumers that otherwise never played games. If gaming isn’t your thing, there are plenty of other reasons to get the phone. At 240 x 320 pixels, the video quality is really decent. Also, the web browsing has full HTML support, so it allows people to keep up-to-date on their favorite sites. Hope the folks in the UK are stoked about this.

UK adveristing watchdog bans iPhone ad - deemed misleading

We’ve all seen the iPhone ads where someone breezes through the internet at seemingly lightning fast speeds. Many on the Internet have complained that the speeds shown in the ads were not indicative of the speeds they are getting in reality. Being in Canada, and having the 2nd fastest download speeds on Earth, I personally haven’t found the speed of the Internet frustrating. It is by far the best I’ve experienced on a mobile device.

The UK advertising watchdog’s biggest beef, was not with the speeds, but a particular statement: “all the parts of the internet are on the phone.” This statement was considered misleading because the phone does not support Flash.

Prices are going to be comparable to iTunes at $0.99 / €0.99 per song except for in Sweden where songs will cost a little more, close to $1.50 USD. We’re anxious to see how the download service does and I’m sure the launch day will be a good indicator of future success.

The Cell mobisode bought by Fox - Coming soon to North America

    The Cell mobisode screen
Fox has recently bought the mobisode The Cell, a 20 x 2-minute drama series about a man who finds himself locked in a lawless prison with no idea of how or why he got there. He’s got a mobile phone with a stranger on the other end a la Phone Booth meets Prison Break.

One of the most annoying things about writing this article is that the website for this mobisode, www.thecell.tv, isn’t available to anyone in North America. Can someone from the UK send screenshots or something?
