Pass the Pigs by THQ Wireless now available for the iPhone

THQ Wireless

THQ Wireless released Pass the Pigs for the iPhone last week. The game is their next casual game title and if it’s anything as fun as De Blob, it will surely be a hit on the App Store. The point of the game is to win by throwing two model pigs across a casino-style table. The player will have points either given or taken away, based on the way the pigs land until ‘Pig Out’. This classic mode supports up to four players and includes three alternative scoring methods.

Pass The Pigs also uses accelerometer technology to give Shake´N´Roll controls to roll the pigs, with varying power, exactly as one would intuitively roll a pair of dice. Alternatively, pigs can be rolled using touch-screen controls, with simple slide or flick motions.

Pass The Pigs is available now for $4.99.

CTIA 2008: QuicklyBored exclusive - the new lightsaber app for iPhone!

LightSaber Unleashed by THQ Wireless

The old Phonesaber app is getting an overhaul!

Everyone loved the lightsaber app for iPhone called PhoneSaber, developed by a couple Scottish guys. Even THQ Wireless, who own the rights to Star Wars IP for mobile liked it. Even though it infringed on the licensing deal they had with LucasArts, they were cool enough to work with the guys on making a new version that’s legal, rather than shut them down entirely. The new version is called LightSaber Unleashed. I got a chance to play LightSaber Unleashed and although I wasn’t allowed to take pics or video, I’ve still got some insider info.

First Gameloft, then Artificial Life, now Namco, PopCap, and THQ have pledged their support for the iPhone. GamesOnDeck found the news, saying Namco promised to bring Pac-Man and Galaga to the touch screen, and PopCap said we’d be seeing reinvented version of Bejeweled, Zuma and Peggle. THQ didn’t announce any specific titles, but the prospect of a touch screen plus their Playboy license is making me nervous.

THQ announces WALL•E

THQ has announced that they will be developing a mobile game based on the upcoming Disney/Pixar animated film WALL•E.

The game and movie revolve around the character WALL•E, the last robot left around after mankind leaves Earth. After hundreds years, he meets another robot named EVE and they set off on a quest to save the planet. Players will take control of WALL•E and EVE as the explore the game’s 10 worlds. Some are set in locations from the movie while others are unique to the game.

This is the second game in a partnership between THQ and the Disney/Pixar pair, following last year’s Ratatouille. After WALL•E’s release alongside the movie, two more games are planned.

THQ acquires Indiana Jones and Star Wars rights

THQ Wireless has announced an agreement with Lucasfilms Ltd. to create mobile games and other content based on the franchises Indiana Jones and Star Wars.

The first games to be released will be Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, scheduled for later this year, and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, scheduled for 2008. The latter game puts players in control of Darth Vader’s apprentice in the era between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The company will follow up the two Star Wars games with a title based on the upcoming movie Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
