
End2End has announced the acquisition of Terraplay, makers of connected-gaming services.
End2End hopes that the move will expand their presence in the mobile space, and believes that they are now well-position for a variety of future plans.
“We expect connected gaming to be major factor in the dramatic growth of the mobile gaming market and Terraplay are the best in the business,” said Bernadette Lyons, Managing Director at End2End. “Connected gaming can transform the experience for the gamer, with features such as multiplayer, competitions and buddy lists, but it can also have a major impact on operators, creating opportunities for flexible business models such as pay-per-play, rental and advertising.”
Financial details were not disclosed.
THQ has announced that four games will be appearing on T-Mobile’s Game LIVE service in the UK.
The four games–Top Trums: Star Wars, Top Trumps: MotoGP, Top Trumps: Football Legends, and Worms–are all powered by Terraplay’s Global Gaming Network. The GGN provides in-game billing, multiplayer options, and community features. Pricing for the games is £1 for 24 hours, after which can rent the game for an additional 1, 2, or 7 days for £1, £2, or £3, respectively.
“The Top Trumps series has consistently delivered classic competitive gameplay that has seen worldwide commercial success,” said Adam Comiskey, Wireless International VP at THQ. “Being able to bring the live entertainment of competitive elements to mobile games is the next step in consumer proposition for us.â€
The games will appear on the Games LIVE service starting this month.
Player X has signed a deal with Terraplay for a series of game competitions.
Player X will add functionality for Terraplay’s Global Gaming Network to ten games. The first game to launch will be Carol Vorderman Mind Aerobics followed by the puzzler Mind Games. Each game will have an integrated competition mode that will run on a weekly basis, with the scores uploaded to the Terraplay servers and published in realtime on web and WAP sites as well as in the game.

Mobile Games Blog has posted a story about T-Mobile UK partnering with Terraplay to create an in-house community. The community will allow rental and pay-per-play games alongside T-Mobile’s regular downloads. There is also the possibility of in-game downloads and social communities for the games.
Sven Hålling, CEO of Terraplay Systems, said: “We are actively solving a clear need from the industry for a federating partner who can provide not only an open and flexible community platform but also allow for cross-operator gaming and in-game billing. We welcome the addition of T-Mobile to our service.”
Neil Holroyd, UK Games Manager at T-Mobile UK, also spoke: “By partnering with Terraplay we are able to introduce new innovative and flexible billing models providing an exciting community game zone around our games portfolio. We hope that many other operators will join as soon as possible to grow the gamer base even further.”
