MobileIndustry.biz has posted a guest editorial by Tao Group’s Chris Hinley about location-based gaming–past, present, and future.

GDC News: Tao Group launches Intent GamePlayer

Game Player
Tao Group has announced the launch of the intent GamePlayer ADK, or application development kit.

The aim of the ADK is to enable rapid development and ease deployment across all major CPU architectures, devices, and market sectors.

“A number of companies claim to have binary portability offering up to 60 percent cost savings for development and porting but this only applies to a subset of the industry, for example, smart phones. Tao Group is unique in the market because it offers single binary portability across different architectures and chip sets and can address the closed phone market place that offers so much potential but is largely untapped. Tao Group offers genuine cross-industry portability that spans feature phones as well as smart phones, set-top boxes, PC and other gaming platforms,” said Francis Charig, Chief Executive of Tao Group.

Fixing mobile fragmentation

MobileIndustry.biz has posted a guest editorial by the Tao Group’s Francis Chang.

Chang argues that mobile fragmentation is becoming increasingly important, with the speed, ease, and cost of porting content to affect the mobile gaming industry more and more.

“The consequential result of disappointed users suffering from a lacklustre entertainment experience could be catastrophic for those who cannot deliver in a highly competitive environment. Especially when compared to the improving standards that consumers are used to - those of the dedicated entertainment devices like the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP, and computer platforms.”

Chang goes on to say that the companies which address the cost of content delivery and speed of porting will gain an advantage and will “benefit from huge growth.” Check the link above to read the whole editorial.
