AT&T LG Incite - pros, cons and a quick overview

Stylus

The LG Incite is the latest buzz in the Windows Mobile space. This WinMo 6.1 device is spec heavy with a 3MP autofocus camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, accelerometer, a sharp and outdoor visible display, a Qualcomm 528MHz CPU and an FM radio.

One of the reasons this phone has been getting so much press is that the touch screen is haptic, providing for a more human feel to the screen. Another reasons is that the phone has a proximity sensor, which is heavily guarded technology that Apple patents, which few other phones utilize. Also among the features, the phone uses a light sensor that helps modify lighting on the fly.

BlackBerry Bold vs HTC Touch Pro vs Samsung Epix

htc_touch_pro_vs_blackberry_bold_vs_samsung_epix

The BlackBerry Bold, HTC Touch Pro and the Samsung Epix are all smartphones that take elements from both the consumer space and the enterprise market. All three phones have 3G, GPS, WiFi, microSD slots and video capture. The HTC Touch Pro and the BlackBerry Bold are about identical in price and the Samsung Epix is around $100 less on the initial purchase with contract. I’ve taken the time to put together a comparison post for these 3 phones.

NDrive S400 - dual processor device powered by Windows Mobile

NDrive S400

The Portuguese company Ndrive, will be releasing a device called the Ndrive S400. The S400 comes with HSDPA, quad-band EDGE, and a 2,8” VGA 640×480 touch screen, 3 megapixel autofocus cam, G-Sensor (i.e. tilt sensor), Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, internal GPS and two processors (Marvell and Qualcomm). This could be a rumor but the Portuguese websites I’ve been looking at seem to handle the info as fact. I think this will be the first dual processor device powered by WinMo.

The QuicklyBored Podcast - Episode 31 - June 03, 2008: BREW 2008 - Qualcomm hires beard developers

I didn’t even know there was such a job as a Beard Developer but this guy clearly knows his stuff. Qualcomm has gone on a spree of Beard Developer hirings because it’s been seen as a corporation with not enough facial hair. In the future, we’ll start seeing “Net Facial Hair” or NFH, appear on the accounting sheets. Until then, lets just make stupid videos.

QUALCOMM announces BREW Client 4-Series

QUALCOMM has announced the BREW Client 4-Series, expanding the architecture with additional features.

The 4-Series architecture is aimed at developer features that will enable better collaboration between them and handset manufacturers. QUALCOMM states that with the use of the platform, manufacturers can safely expose hardware and software layers to developers, and developers can gain new content-framework support that allows improved discovery, delivery, and installation of content. Additionally, developers receive support for security and DRM.

“BREW Client 4-Series provides an enhanced application environment that allows operators, publishers and developers to deliver improved capabilities for business, multimedia and gaming applications,” said Bob Briggs, senior vice president and general manager, BREW for QUALCOMM Internet Services. “By creating more opportunities for meaningful collaboration among these critical members of the wireless value chain, QUALCOMM’s ultimate goal is to deliver new and compelling applications to the wireless end user.”

BREW Client 4.1 is scheduled to be available in the first quarter of 2008. It will include an SDK, as well as three release versions: Porting Kit for MSM chipsets (PKM), Porting Kit Generic (PKG) and Porting Evaluation Kit (PEK).
