Just after their deal with Amob, PopCap has now signed up with Indiagames to get their titles spread throughout India. So far, only Bookworm and Chuzzle are set for release, but hopefully we’ll see some more of PopCap’s game (Bejewelled, anyone?) in the region.

First Gameloft, then Artificial Life, now Namco, PopCap, and THQ have pledged their support for the iPhone. GamesOnDeck found the news, saying Namco promised to bring Pac-Man and Galaga to the touch screen, and PopCap said we’d be seeing reinvented version of Bejeweled, Zuma and Peggle. THQ didn’t announce any specific titles, but the prospect of a touch screen plus their Playboy license is making me nervous.
PopCap Games has signed a distribution deal that will see their games appearing on Acme’s Amob.com portal. The first games on the site will be Chuzzle, which was recently ported to SNAP Mobile, and Bookworm. Amob.com serves titles to Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, so this should greatly expand PopCap’s reach.
PopCap Games has announced the release of Peggle on Apple’s iPod.
Players launch a small silver ball down onto a playing field full of pegs. The ball then bounces off the pegs on its way down to the bottom of the screen. When the ball falls completely, all the pegs it touched are removed from the field. The game’s goal is to remove all the orange pegs from the screen. Variously colored pegs give different bonuses such as area clearing explosions and flippers at the bottom of the screen.
PopCap Games has announced the launch of a new puzzle title called Bookworm.
Originally released online and on PCs, Bookworm is a puzzle game where players must build words from tiles on a grid. Words can be selected via the d-pad/cursor, triple-tap, or predictive text entry, which is exclusive to mobile phones. Longer words grant bonuses as well as special power-up tiles.
“Bookworm is very well suited for mobile phones because it can be played in short bursts of a minute or two whenever and wherever the opportunity arises,” said Andrew Stein, director of mobile business development at PopCap. “At the same time, the game also offers a great challenge for marathon word-builders since it’s essentially infinite in its replayability.”
The game is available now throughout North America and the UK.
Electronic Arts and PopCap have announced the release of a new, updated version of Bejeweled, reports MobileIndustry.biz.
The new version features updated sound and graphics. Vibration for certain moves has been included for phones that support it, and, last but not least, there is a new competitive multiplayer mode. US gamers can play against each other in the same region, as well as other multiplayer features such as chat.
The game is available now throughout North America and Europe.
Glu Mobile has announced that they are extending their partnership with PopCap Games to continue publishing three games.
Through the agreement, Glu will continue to publish PopCap’s Zuma, AstroPop, and Insaniquarium. Zuma and AstroPop launched originally in 2005, with Insaniquarium launching in early 2006.
“PopCap has pioneered the online casual game space and was one of the first online developers to recognize that mobile is a logical extension for online titles and would be key to extending consumer awareness and adoption,” said Jill Braff, senior vice president of global publishing at Glu. “We’ve seen both commercial and critical success in the games we’ve published for mobile, and we look forward to continued success with bringing these great games to a growing global audience of mobile gamers.”
Zuma has consistently been one of Glu’s top sellers, as well as winning numerous awards.
PopCap games has announced that they have hired Andrew Stein for the newly created position Director of Mobile Business Development.
Stein joins the company from Cingular Wireless, where he was Senior Marketing Manager of Games. He brings over dozen years of experience with him in both the wireless sector and marketing. He will manage the creation and oversight of PopCap’s North American mobile strategy, creation of new partnerships with carriers, and development, distribution, and marketing.
“We’re excited to have Andrew joining our management team and taking on a critical role within the company,†said Dennis Ryan, EVP of Worldwide Business Development at PopCap. “Mobile devices, especially cellular phones, could well be the largest market for casual games like ours. Andrew’s experience with both the business of mobile games and the production of traditional and video games is uncommon, and makes for a perfect fit with our organization.â€
If you’ve ever played Insaniquarium or Bejeweled, then you know the world deserves a taste of both of these games. PopCap Games will be taking its casual games titles to Japan under a new distribution deal inked with Square Enix. The games will be distributed though Square Enix’s online web portal.
