Everybody knows Snake. It was one of the, if not the, first mobile game. Inlogic has brought back the game in its true original and retro form. Although the game has been shifted to the 3D world as well, Inlogic software has decided to bring its version to many up-to-date phones.
I had a chance to sit down with MocoSpace at CTIA and they’ve got some great news about their site. Users have skyrocketed to about 3.6 million users! They’re also trucking along very nicely with new artists and songs uploaded to their site.
In case you’ve been on Mars with your eyes sowed shut and your fingers in your ears, MocoSpace is one of the largest mobile internet sites in the world. They are also the largest pure mobile social network in the US with over 2 billion pageviews per month. Continue reading about our chat with MocoSpace at CTIA 2088
Second Life’s mobile beta app has been downloaded by users all over the world in over 98 countries. The app was made by Vollee and offers a ‘high-end PC experience to mobile’. The app was launched in June of 2008 and has proven to be very successful. If anyone has played this game, I would love to hear some feedback about data charges associated with the game.
The first thing you should note about the above video, is that it needs to be taken with a grain of salt. It is not the flawless test that they make it out to be. Some people are reporting that the test wasn’t on a WiFi connection and that the Bold may have been taking data off the towers instead. If that’s the case, the Bold is still a contender in the race for a great mobile web browser.
Although we are a long ways away from getting to the above image, it represents where I think mobile gaming should be going to be successful with the hardcore gamers. Imagine that: A nice handset running GTA4 on the Pico Projector and using the Zeemote for controls. Ideal but not happening for a long time. On the bright side, PlayStation has licensed some of its games for mobile for the first time.
Player X and Sony inked a deal to bring mobile versions of console hits Buzz! and Destruction Derby. Both games are set to land in July.
Spin3, a turnkey solutions for the mobile gaming arena, has put out a press release saying they’ve got a progressive slot game called Major Millions and the jackpot is currently around £975,000 ($1,821,000 USD). Remember girls, ALWAYS keep a charge on your mobile.
I found a really interesting story on CO-ED Magazine about a woman whose life was saved by her phone. The woman writing the story, had turned off her phone because it was running out of batteries and as she says: “You don’t want to have a dead phone in case of an emergency.”
That night, a few hours later, a taxi driver locked her in the cab and refused to let her out. She started screaming at the man and he claimed the meter was broken and he couldn’t let her out. She immediately powered on her dead phone and called 911 for help. Police officers let her out of the vehicle that was going God knows where, and also discovered the meter was working fine. The rest of the story will take place in court.
The author, Elizabeth of Baruch College warns: “Please let this be a lesson to all of you out there, particularly the women, to always have your cell phones on hand (and charged) just in case.”
The Shroud has been in the making since we first started QuicklyBored about 3 years ago. If you don’t know about it, or remember it, The Shroud is an RPG for mobile. It’s like The Legend of Zelda meets Harvest Moon.
Back in those days, we were all about mobile gaming and we only had about 1 PR contact. Now we cover everything mobile entertainment related and we have like a bajillion PR contacts. Anyways, here are some screenshots of a mobile game that is years and years in the making.
Doug and I showed up to this session a little late and came in during Anders Evju of I-Play talking about casual games versus hard core games. We walked in while he was showing some well-known stats including the fact that girls dominate casual games and boys hardcore games.
