The HTC Touch with Android

The HTC Touch is a great phone. Problem is, Windows Mobile can be incredibly frustrating for the average consumer. The Microsoft approach is great for anyone who is a pro user. It provides you with every possible option and lets you choose your experience. It’s the complete opposite of Apple and the iPhone. Mac has always been described to me as “the computer for people who don’t understand or care about computers.” Maybe having Android on the HTC Touch is a good idea. I’d have to try it out myself.

Zune phone not coming at CES 2009 (rumor squashed)

Ina Fried is a senior staff writer for CNET’s News.com
and she recently squashed all the rumors that the Zune phone was coming to CES 2009. Apparently, Ballmer won’t be unveiling the device and will instead be focusing his talk on Windows 7 from a consumer perspective.

“Microsoft will have a bunch of stuff to show at the Consumer Electronics Show in January, but a rumored Zune Phone won’t be one of them, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans. Instead, much of CEO Steve Ballmer’s focus will be on talking about Windows 7 from a consumer perspective. Microsoft is pushing to have Windows 7 done in time for the holiday 2009 shopping season, so that means this CES is Ballmer’s best stage to tout its benefits.”

Zune phone to be revealed at CES 2009 (rumor)

Global Equities Research’s Trip Chowdhry is spreading the rumor that Microsoft’s CEO Steve Ballmer will be unveiling the Zune phone at CES in LA on January 7th 2009. Chowdhry claims that the company’s new centerpiece will combine the best features of the Zune media player with the hardware design of Danger’s mobile Sidekick. Think of the iPhone with a slide out QWERTY.

My major issue with a Zune phone is development. Are we to expect a new OS that everyone will now have to develop separate apps for? Will it just be Windows Mobile apps ported to the Zune phone? Hey Ballmer, hows about getting some more info out to the masses? Thanks.

Microsoft Office for iPhone - please be better than desktop

Documents To Go, the company that brought you Microsoft Office for BlackBerry, Palm, Windows Mobile, and Symbian are moving to iPhone. I’m really hoping that the company will offer copy & paste within their documents. Also, the product is still in development so they might be waiting for Apple to update and implement c&p themselves.

Microsoft Zune coming to Windows Mobile

Microsoft Zune tattoo

Zune is a great mp3 player in the sense that it doesn’t have all the DRM hassles that you get with the iPod. You can share music with other Zune people and nobody will give you grief for it. The player will now be available for Windows Mobile users too. Hopefully, we’ll be able to share music with other WinMo users. I’m thinking this feature will become available with Windows Mobile 7.

Microsoft Skymarket - Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s iTunes

Mac vs Pc spoof

Can’t we all just get along?

Windows Mobile 7 isn’t set to launch any time soon, my guess is not for another year, but with its release will come Skymarket - the MS response to iTunes. Skymarket will let you browse, purchase and download applications and games over the air. With over 20,000 applications available for WinMo, we’re looking forward to seeing how Skymarket will cut the fat and leave us only the juicy and delicious programs that make our phone great. Will it be a high-maintenance approach like Nokia’s download service? Or will it be open and user moderated like the upcoming Android Market?

However it’s moderated, it is still a key ingredient in making Microsoft more competitive in the mobile space and that makes us happy. The more the merrier!

This game builds on the relationship between Glu and Microsoft, which resulted in the release of Project Gotham Racing Mobile earlier this year. Age of Empires III is scheduled to launch worldwide in 2008.

Microsoft Live Later

MicrosoftAn article by Laurie Sullivan of TechWeb Technology News reports that Microsoft has announced a bunch of new games and accessories for its gaming platform Xbox 360 and its Windows PC system, but nothing yet on its wireless efforts. This can be largely due to the fact that Microsoft has more control over the Xbox and Windows ecosystems than over the mobile ecosystem.
