LG to launch phone watch at CES 2009

LG will be unveiling a phone watch at CES. The device will have a 1.43-inch colour touchscreen and will offer video conferencing due to its video camera built into the watch’s face. The watch will also have MP3 file support, “Text To Speech”, voice dialing with speech recognition and Bluetooth. Sounds pretty awesome huh? I’m going to have to pick one up just for the novelty factor.

LG develops 4G (LTE) Windows Mobile device

LG has been showcasing various LTE technologies and one of them was a WinMo phone running over LTE. The potential for LTE is amazing and it will definitely be the missing link for full video streaming and media capabilities on a device.

With LTE technology, users can download a 700 MB movie file in less than one minute at speeds of 100 Mbps. LTE technology would also allow consumers to simultaneously stream four HD movies without any buffering.

This is going to be an incredible advancement in mobile devices and LG are doing a great job of pioneering the technology. With over 250 staff on the research and development team, expect the first LTE devices to come from LG.

AT&T LG Incite - pros, cons and a quick overview

Stylus

The LG Incite is the latest buzz in the Windows Mobile space. This WinMo 6.1 device is spec heavy with a 3MP autofocus camera, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooth, accelerometer, a sharp and outdoor visible display, a Qualcomm 528MHz CPU and an FM radio.

One of the reasons this phone has been getting so much press is that the touch screen is haptic, providing for a more human feel to the screen. Another reasons is that the phone has a proximity sensor, which is heavily guarded technology that Apple patents, which few other phones utilize. Also among the features, the phone uses a light sensor that helps modify lighting on the fly.

LG Prada 2 and Bluetooth-enabled watch Prada Link

with Bluetooth watch

LG’s Prada was among the first touch screen devices in Korea. It’s elegant design and expensive branding made it a hit with Seoul’s young and trendy. It’s successor, the Prada 2, will be arriving in Europe along with a Bluetooth-enabled watch called the Prada Link (model LG-LBA-T950) that flashes call notifications and shows SMS messages. The Prada 2 will have all the great specs you would expect from a luxury device such as 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, 5 megapixel camera, haptic feedback, video calling, slider QWERTY keypad, and a 240 x 400 3″ touchscreen. Oh yeah, and it’s 300 euros.

Best selling phones on Amazon tell us a lot about market

Except for the MOTO Z9, the top 6 bestselling phones on Amazon are smartphones. It’s also interesting to note that LG and BlackBerry dominate the smartphone space on Amazon.

The fact that the LG Vu is the top selling phone says a lot about the mobile TV industry. Clearly, consumers want mobile TV and are willing to buy a device that advertises its ability to provide mobile video services.

It also seems that the Curve is the most popular consumer BlackBerry. At least I have to assume that all purchases made through Amazon are consumer because enterprise would have a carrier rep to purchase from.

Motorola is still dominating the clam shell space. Almost every flip phone in the bestselling list is by Motorola. I guess they’ve held onto their loyal RAZR fans with new versions and features.

I’m looking forward to the day when the bestselling list will be nothing but the best smartphones.

LG Rhytm is the latest music-centric device

LG Rhytm

The LG Rhytm is a slider phone that comes complete with FM radio, 1.3MP camera, EVDO and microSD slot. The phone is said to be tuned by Mark Levinson who has over 30 years of experience making quality hardware for audiophiles.

The Rhytm costs $120 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract.

LG KC910 Renoir due for release October 15th

LG KC910

I love writing about 8MP camera phones coming to the market because for the longest time the Internet was filled with horrible camera phone pictures. They’re always blurry to the point of mosaic. We’re now going through a time where the best party pics will be taken with the likes of an LG Renoir.

There is a lot of talk about how the LG Renoir is going to position itself against all the other touch screen consumer devices. The camera is the obvious edge on the market. The photography capabilities of this phone are sure to capture the attention of anyone who considers this a high priority. The camera is not only 8MP but it also has smile and blink detection which are sure to help your photos come out clear.

How classy is the name Renoir? Named after Mr Pierre-Auguste Renoir, a leader in the development of the Impressionist style, the Renoir is a great name to take to market. Stay tuned because the LG KC910 is set to launch October 15th in the UK.

QuicklyBored in Korea - Checking out the mobile scene

LG Cyon

So I’ve been here in Korea for a couple of days now and it’s time to really get to work. The weekend has been really slow because I’ve been travelling and shopping around for a good “love motel”. If you’ve ever been to Korea, you know that hotels are for rich people and “love motels” are for the rest of us. The place I’m staying at right now has bed bugs but at least it’s only $40 a night. Also, at least I get my own room unlike CTIA where Doug and I shared a room with 4 other people. Today I spent the day checking out the best LG phones at one of the world’s largest technology markets. The video will take some time to edit but as soon as I get back it is a top priority. So stay tuned for some great insider footage.
