LG develops 4G (LTE) Windows Mobile device

LG has been showcasing various LTE technologies and one of them was a WinMo phone running over LTE. The potential for LTE is amazing and it will definitely be the missing link for full video streaming and media capabilities on a device.

With LTE technology, users can download a 700 MB movie file in less than one minute at speeds of 100 Mbps. LTE technology would also allow consumers to simultaneously stream four HD movies without any buffering.

This is going to be an incredible advancement in mobile devices and LG are doing a great job of pioneering the technology. With over 250 staff on the research and development team, expect the first LTE devices to come from LG.

LG Prada 2 and Bluetooth-enabled watch Prada Link

with Bluetooth watch

LG’s Prada was among the first touch screen devices in Korea. It’s elegant design and expensive branding made it a hit with Seoul’s young and trendy. It’s successor, the Prada 2, will be arriving in Europe along with a Bluetooth-enabled watch called the Prada Link (model LG-LBA-T950) that flashes call notifications and shows SMS messages. The Prada 2 will have all the great specs you would expect from a luxury device such as 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, 5 megapixel camera, haptic feedback, video calling, slider QWERTY keypad, and a 240 x 400 3″ touchscreen. Oh yeah, and it’s 300 euros.

Japan’s NTT DoCoMo developing an Android device

With Android UI

Japan’s NTT DoCoMo have put out some incredible concept devices and proven their ability to think outside of the box when it comes to mobile phones. According to the Business Standard, DoCoMo is planning an Android device next year. The device will be co-developed with Korean telecom KT Freetel of which DoCoMo owns 10%.

Being the first Android handset in Japan, there are huge expectations. With a country that has such an incredible mobile educated population, combined with a completely open platform, I’m hoping Japanese consumers and developers will push Android to its limits. The phone is also expected to be about 20% cheaper than other smartphones because of the savings with an open source OS. Stay tuned!

QuicklyBored in Korea - Checking out the mobile scene

LG Cyon

So I’ve been here in Korea for a couple of days now and it’s time to really get to work. The weekend has been really slow because I’ve been travelling and shopping around for a good “love motel”. If you’ve ever been to Korea, you know that hotels are for rich people and “love motels” are for the rest of us. The place I’m staying at right now has bed bugs but at least it’s only $40 a night. Also, at least I get my own room unlike CTIA where Doug and I shared a room with 4 other people. Today I spent the day checking out the best LG phones at one of the world’s largest technology markets. The video will take some time to edit but as soon as I get back it is a top priority. So stay tuned for some great insider footage.

Mobile Content 2008 Korea - getting ready for a great show

Getting a hair cut to prepare for Korea

I’m off to judge a mobile game awards at Mobile Content 2008. One of the things I learned from living in Korea, is that beards and facial hair are not that common. It was perfectly acceptable for me to walk around San Francisco with a beard and shaggy hair, but I’m not about to do that for Korea. For them, I’m breaking out a new look. Young professional meets chinless dork. I think I’ve perfected it.

Stay tuned on QuicklyBored because I’m leaving for Korea this Friday, September 19th. The content is going to be amazing!

Mobile Content 2008 - Nurikum Square Business Center

Mobile Content 2008 Korea

I’ll be representing QuicklyBored in Korea as a judge for a mobile gaming contest called Mobile Content 2008. The show will be in Seoul and I’ll make sure to bring you the best in Korean mobile entertainment. The first thing I’ll have to do to prepare for the awards is shave and get a hair cut. After having lived in Korea, one thing I noticed is that Koreans get a little uncomfortable around shaggy foreigners. This became obvious to me when my employer in Korea told me that I was scaring some of my coworkers with my beard.

Transforming robot phone - Updates on the Toshiba 815T PB

Here is an advertisement that I got from some friends in Korea. Not sure if the ad is available on the net yet so this may be a QB exclusive. The Toshiba 815T PB got a lot of exposure back in February when the devices were first showcased in North America. The phones by Softbank, were developed to coincide with the launch of a TV show featuring crazy AI phone robots that terrorize the world. Cool huh? Anyways, the show is called Ketai Sousakan 7, and will feature the robots who rock QVGA, 3G, 3.2 MP camera and of course, cool transforming abilities!
