Mirror app for the iPhone - as if the it needed more vanity

The guys who made this app are easily the funniest guys in the business. Their app is not only great but the press release they sent out is so sarcastic it’s amazing. The app, turns your screen black in order to create a reflection. Here is what they have to say about it:

We’ve spent almost 8 months in R&D developing technology to put a black background on your iPhone. Go ahead and stare into your iPhone with pride. Our aim is to provide millions of people with that sort of confidence in their lives,” said Dan Paik, CTO of Juice Wireless and the mastermind behind the Mirror apps.

Imagine that wasn’t sarcasm? I would seriously wonder what they were doing during their 8 months of R&D.

Warning - iPhone update 2.2 will slow 3G and drain battery

I’ve stopped looking to updates to fix my device experience. They rarely update the essential features that I need on my phone such as landscape/portrait keyboard functionality. Instead, updates are usually fixing some minutea that I’m not even going to notice post-update. It seems the latest update slows the 3G speeds to a point where it may not be considered 3G and the battery is being drained even faster.

The news is all based on opinions discussed in various forums. We’ve yet to see a speed test confirmation which is something QB might do. Although I really don’t want to update my phone and test it if that’s the case.

Toy Bot Diaries Entry 2 for iPhone now available iTunes App Store

IUGO

The sequel to IUGO’s much loved Toy Bot Diaries has launched on the App Store. Toy Bot Diaries Entry 2 has more levels, more content, more graphics and of course the little robot that everyone finds just so freaking adorable. In the first entry, our little robot faced off against the giant flame spewing evil bot, eventually shooting him with a cork in the face that pushed his sorry ass down a pit. In Entry 2, we begin where we left off; climbing out of the dingy sewers and into a whole new world of challenges in the sky.

Toy Bot Diaries Entry 2 is available on the App Store for $3.99.

Google Earth now available for the iPhone

Google Earth for mobile is such a great idea and I’m surprised it didn’t come pre-loaded with the G1. Although it isn’t the most practical piece of software in the sense that I am much quicker to use a maps program in my daily life, it’s still a great talking piece.

If you ever meet someone and you’re all “so where you from?” and they’re all “I’m from Nunavut.” Then you can be all “really? Let’s check it out on my phone.”

Google Earth for the iPhone also uses some great user interface design:

  • Just swipe your finger across the screen and you fly to the other side of the globe
  • You can pinch to zoom in or out
  • Double tap with one finger to zoom in and two fingers to zoom out
  • With the My Location feature, you can fly to where you are in the real world on your phone
  • In addition, we have over eight million Panoramio photos, which are geo-located photos of places, and you can view any and all of them from your iPhone. Besides being beautiful, high-quality pictures, they’re specifically of places, so you don’t have to see some guy’s family on vacation in Thailand–you can see the beaches, the temples, all the things that give you a real sense of the place.

    BlackBerry Media Sync for Mac

    BlackBerry Media Sync

Syncing a BlackBerry with a Mac can be a pain. In the past, I’ve had issues with the device not being recognized by the Mac and installing software can sometimes be difficult. BGR got the first look at BlackBerry Media Sync for Mac. It’s a slick looking applications that is a great Mac port of the PC version. Now you’ll be able to sync your music, photos, videos, and even iTunes playlists to BlackBerry devices.

Mobile TV coming to an iPhone near you

    i.tv coming to the iPhone

Mobile TV on the iPhone is going to be great. I’m really excited about this product because a great screen resolution combined with a simple user interface could make for some great mobile TV. According to i.TV’s product demo video, which can be viewed on their site, they have an awesome line up of shows. We’re not sure when this is going to be released but according to the company’s blog:

The approval process is taking longer than anticipated and it’s not Apple’s fault. A few weeks ago, we noticed something happening in the version we submitted to Apple that ultimately would have had an unwanted effect on our users’ experience. We temporarily pulled it from App Store approval process to fix the problem. It caused a delay but we’re glad we caught it before everyone else did!

Update: Sorry to give you guys the wrong impression, but with the first release of this product you will be able to watch previews and movie trailers but not TV. The company is saying “we don’t know if and when that will be possible.” It still does remain that mobile TV for the iPhone would be great. I really hope this company heads that mission.
