The International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) are now closed to entries, and the judges are starting the lengthy process of selecting finalists.
First, an international panel of judges from Japan, China, Korea, the US, France, the UK, Germany, and Italy will pre-select 80 games from the nearly 400 submitted. The pre-selected games will then be submitted to a international jury who will select 5 nominees for each category, those being: excellence in gameplay, excellence in connectivity, excellence in 3D, best IP-based game, and best casual game.
“This edition is showing a further growth in professionalism and quality worldwide and some astonishing innovations that we can’t wait to disclose to a wider audience, after the judging sessions,” said IMGA founder and managing director Maarten Noyons. “We have seen new work of both the established studios as of small studios and individuals. Excellent work came in from all over the world in all categories: amazing 3D games, clever connected games, cross platform games, but also many Flash games looking a lot better than the ones we saw last year.”
Of the almost 400 entries this year, 45% came from Europe, 26% from Asia, 17% from North America, and 12% from the rest of the world.

Following hot on the heels of the IMGA’s call for entries, QB got the chance to sit down (via Skype) and chat with Maarten Noyons, Managing Director of the International Mobile Gaming Awards. Lean back and enjoy as Douglas “Tron” Soltys and Mr. Noyons discuss the growth of the IMGA, industry consolidation, and what’s going on in Europe and Asia. Post-interview, glisten in shock and awe as Tron and Wes Tam, QB’s developer extraordinaire, get into a heated debate as to whether or not an industry event like the International Mobile Gaming Awards is even worth-while.

The International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) has announced that they are accepting entries for the contest, now in its 4th year.
IMGA awards a total of $40,000 in prizes for the following categories: excellence in creativity, excellence in 3D, excellence in game play, best licensed or IP-based game, and best casual game. Last year’s content saw 400 developers from 42 countries participating in the competition.
“Winning the 2006 IMGA Grand Prix and the Innovation Award is now helping us to establish the partnerships that will take Triangler a step further,” said Oscar van Deventer of TNO, winner of the Grand Prix prize last year. “The prize is opening a lot of doors and we are in the process of negotiating a major development and publishing agreement. So anybody with the next bright concept for a mobile game: send it in, you have everything to win and nothing to lose!â€
