The HTC Magic review, specifications and impressions

The HTC Magic is a slick looking device with a curvy design that seems reminiscent of the Android G1. The device features a rollerball, quick keys, and a much improved camera. Video recording and the responsiveness of the camera have been improved for the launch of this device and will surely please.

The first difference from the G1 that you’ll surely notice is that it is thinner and lacks a keyboard. Other than that, you can expect the same screen resolution and size. The screen might be somewhat brighter and the color temperature slightly different, but now we’re getting into some minor details.

Overall, the phone is a good device for touchscreen lovers who want an Android phone but would like something a little slimmer with no slide out keyboard. The device looks very pretty and it’s nice to see the Android platform start to influence the look and feel of a device. For a company that also manufactures the less-than-beautiful Windows Mobile, they’re really proving they can make a wide variety of devices.

The HTC Touch with Android

The HTC Touch is a great phone. Problem is, Windows Mobile can be incredibly frustrating for the average consumer. The Microsoft approach is great for anyone who is a pro user. It provides you with every possible option and lets you choose your experience. It’s the complete opposite of Apple and the iPhone. Mac has always been described to me as “the computer for people who don’t understand or care about computers.” Maybe having Android on the HTC Touch is a good idea. I’d have to try it out myself.

TELUS recommends HTC Touch Pro as ultimate holiday device

TELUS has a section of their website where you can input your favorite elements of a mobile device and it will tell you what the best device is for what you want. What’s really funny about it is that they took the “monkey and a typewriter” theme but changed it to “meerkat and change-o-tron.” So I wanted to see what phone they would give me if I just turned all the settings to full blast. After a long Rube Goldberg experience, you get a suggestion. TELUS recommended me the HTC Touch Pro. Woohoo!

HTC Touch Pro vs the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1

    xperia-vs-touch-pro

While reading HoFo, I found someone looking for a comparison of the HTC Touch Pro and the Sony Ericsson Xperia X1. The post is interesting because the author outlines exactly what they’re looking for in a phone. I think it’s a real sign of the times that a decent camera is on the top of the list.

    - 3MP camera or higher (flash is even better!)
    - Keyboard of some sort (QWERTY or normal keypad is fine but I txt ALOT)
    - WiFi (absolute must, I do not intend on using a data plan)
    - Good web browser (as close to iPhone experience as I can get)
    - Must work internationally (in China, at least)
    - I do not care about 3G
    - Affordable mix of quality + price

I’ve put together a quick comparison of the Xperia X1 and the HTC Touch Pro with respect to which one I think this author should purchase.

    t-mobile-g1-android-powered-phone-4

The Commercial Times newspaper in Taiwan is reporting that HTC will begin shipping the G1 with Android in the first quarter of 2009.

While starting to sell its Touch 3G smartphones in the Taiwan market in cooperation with Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) on November 3, HTC also plans to launch its first 5-megapixel PDA phone, the Tough HD, in Taiwan before the end of this year, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
