GlobalFun to develop Tom & Jerry game

GlobalFun has announced that they will be publishing a game based on the cartoon Tom & Jerry as part of their continuing partnership with Turner Broadcasting.

The game features the famous cat and mouse duo in 12 maze-like levels located through out the house, garden, and basement. Players guide Jerry, the mouse, through the levels while avoiding traps and, of course, Tom. There are also power-ups and hidden rooms scattered throughout the mazes to keep things interesting.

“All the games commissioned with GlobalFun to date have been very popular with Cartoon Network viewers,” said Casey Hardwood, SVP of interactive wireless and communication at Turner. “Tom and Jerry has been a firm favourite with our audience so creating the game will increase our offerings for children.”

A title for the game hasn’t yet been decided, and there’s no word on a release date.

Runestone and GlobalFun to release PicoPix Winter Edition

Runestone Games and GlobalFun have announced PicoPix Winter Edition, sequel to the brain-teaser PicoPix.

Players have to use clues to solve puzzles and reveal the hidden picture. There are over 40 puzzles of varying difficulties, all of which are a variation on picross. Players are told how many consecutive groups of spaces are colored in each row and column, and must use the information to reveal the entire picture. All the puzzles in this edition have a winter theme.

“To publish the Winter Edition of PicoPix was an easy decision for us, having seen the initial uptake on PicoPix that we also publish for Runestone Games,” said GlobalFun COO Bertil Krumnack. “Seasonal games are much more interesting than games solely targeted towards one specific date, such as Christmas.”

There’s no word yet on a release date for the game.

GlobalFun announces Word On Word

GlobalFun has announced a partnership with Orb & Music Production to bring a word game called Word On Word to mobile phones.

Word On Word, or WOW for short, is a casual game that makes use of the player’s language skills. Gamers must make as many words as possible, with longer words being worth more points, by using letters that drop down onto the game board. GlobalFun says that up 18,000 words can be made, depending on the language.

“WOW has proven itself on the web where [it] launched and we strongly believe that the game concept will do great on the mobile,” said Marcus Johansson, CEO of GlobalFun. “I really like the fact that the same great end-user experience can be transferred directly from the on-line game to the mobile platform.”

The game supports 9 languages and is scheduled for release in November.

“Turner Broadcasting, with its extensive reach across many platforms, is a very exciting company to work with,” said Marcus Johansson, CEO of GlobalFun. “We are proud and happy that they have expressed confidence in our work to date, and look forward to bringing the games to market.”
