TouchArcade has done a great job of putting together a list of discounted iPhone apps and games. The list includes a ton of games that have become free as well as some significant price drops. I haven’t done a Black Friday post yet so this is it. Because I’ve spent the last 3 Thanksgivings in Asia and the Middle East, to be totally honest I just found out about Black Friday about a week ago and I still don’t really get it. Why do people want to shop after Thanksgiving? Are you drunk on turkey and need to spend cash? Anyways, great prices after the jump.t Click through to read some awesome Black Friday deals
Though I wasn’t a big fan of their Poker Odds Calculator Pro, I really like Mobigloo’sNintaii for BlackBerry. Some of you may remember us mentioning Nintaii back in October when we discussed the finalists for the BlackBerry Developer Challenge. ‘Nintai,’ a Japanese Kanji that means “patience” offers users a great experience from start to finish - if you can, that is. It’s easy to install, and there’s virtually no setup. The controls are easy to learn and operate. And, there are about 100 different levels (of increasing difficulty), so with a little perseverance this game may in fact teach you all about the meaning of patience.
I’ve been getting some of our less technically-inclined readers emailing me asking “how do I download mobile games from my AT&T BlackBerry?” It seemed like too easy of a question to answer so I’ve been avoiding it but there is no such thing as a stupid question and I’ll happily respond.
For this how-to, I’m using an AT&T BlackBerry Bold courtesy of Research in Motion (RIM). The first thing you’ll notice about the Bold is that it has 6 icons on the lower section of the screen. From that list you have (or at least on my Bold): messages, email, address book, calendar, MEdia Net and media. Click through to read about how to get games on your AT&T BlackBerry
Games are the fastest-growing and most popular type of application for iPhone. As of Friday evening, 7 of the 10 bestselling apps were games. According to Stan Ng, Apple’s senior director of product marketing, “This was an amazing surprise to us to see how much games have taken off.”
This is great news considering when QuicklyBored first started, mobile gaming was at an incredible low. In fact, we changed the format of the site and relaunched because mobile games were such a drag.
Since the App Store has launched, developers have created around 1,700 games. Former EA executive Neil Young describtes why companies such as his newly formed iPhone/iPod gaming company love the platform so much.
“I found that my iPhone was never very far away from me,” Young said. “I was constantly checking e-mail, downloading apps, playing games, browsing the Internet. My personal usage was measurably different from any phone or game machine I’ve ever had before. It led me to think that there was a dramatically new market opportunity for gaming on a unique mobile device.”
The iPhone has a variety of sensors including a light sensor, proximity sensor and the obvious orientation sensor. These sensors help with the daily use of the iPhone, but are all these sensors being used by gaming companies? I’ve taken the time to write a couple of ideas for games that I think would be really fun, and would use the proximity sensor.
Konami’s Emoticons has received the Honors Award from the National Parenting Publications Awards. So if you have kids, or you’re a really young QB reader, feel free to get this game because its got mommy’s seal of approval.
Emoticons Mobile is an addicting puzzle game that is easy to start and impossible to put down. Players mix and match emoticons, such as Yellow Smilies, Blue Frownies and Purple Crazies to create the biggest matches and longest combos, collecting points along the way.
Myxer is the largest and fastest growing site for free ad-supported mobile content - with over 11 million users, more than 22 million mobile downloads a month, and a catalog of over 1 million ringones, wallpapers, videos and games. I attended their product demonstration at CTIA and it was a pretty interesting take on the mobile music market. Continue reading about Myxer, the ad-supported mobile content company
Steve Jobs has been widely quoted as saying the iPod Touch and of course the iPhone is the “best portable device for games.” I would agree with him in some respects but his quote is mostly based on the fact that the phone is getting such incredible downloads. As a mobile gaming enthusiast, I have to acknowledge all the other platforms and it would be hard for me to say the iPhone is the best hands down. What I will say, is that the iPhone has done the industry a huge service by showing people that gaming on a phone can be fun. Click through to read more about Steve Jobs and iPhone games
