CTIA 2008: Hollywood and mobile content

I just attended the session “Hollywood and mobile content” which featured John Smelzer, SVP & GM, Mobile, FOX Interactive Media, and Andrew Wallenstein, Deputy Editor, The Hollywood Reporter. The session was focused on the issue of whether mobile is a growing platform for video entertainment and other forms of consumer content. It also asks the question: How is Hollywood participating?

The Cell mobisode bought by Fox - Coming soon to North America

Fox has recently bought the mobisode The Cell, a 20 x 2-minute drama series about a man who finds himself locked in a lawless prison with no idea of how or why he got there. He’s got a mobile phone with a stranger on the other end a la Phone Booth meets Prison Break.

One of the most annoying things about writing this article is that the website for this mobisode, www.thecell.tv, isn’t available to anyone in North America. Can someone from the UK send screenshots or something?

Glu to develop Ice Age games

Glu has partnered with Fox to bring games based on the Ice Age movie series to mobile phones.

The move comes following the announcement of Ice Age 3, the latest 3D movie in the $1.2 billion grossing brand. Glu is no stranger to the series, having developed Ice Age 2: Arctic Slide, which was one of their top-selling games in 2006.

Vivendi Games announces 2008 lineup

Vivendi Games Mobile has announced the lineup of game they’ll be releasing in the first half of 2008.

First up is Celebrity Hangman, which allows users write their own pop-culture-themed word lists and submit then to Vivendi for other users to download, follow by a new multiplayer dart sim called Pub Darts 180.

I-play Hires Fox’s Leighton Webb

i-playI-play, the mobile entertainment company, today announced that Leighton Webb has been appointed as Senior Vice President of Content Strategy and Licensing for the company’s global business. Webb’s core role will be to drive the company’s overall content strategy as well as leading the licensing and publishing businesses.
