EA announces Asterix: The Official Mobile Game of the Movie

Electronic Arts has announced Asterix: The Official Mobile Game of the Movie, following a deal between EA and licensors La Petite Reine and Editions Albert Rene for exclusive wireless rights.

The launch of the game will coincide with the release of the third movie in the series. Both the movies and and the comic series it’s based on have been incredibly popular throughout Europe, grossing many hundreds of millions of dollars.

Electronic Arts releases Harry Potter Mastering Magic

Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. have announced the release of Harry Potter Mastering Magic.

Players take control of Harry, Ron, or Hermione during their fifth year at the Hogwarts school of magic. They will attend classes to learn herbology, charms, astronomy, potions and more, as they pursue their O.W.L. grades. Practice classes, complete exams, and track progress as you strive for the coveted Studious Success Cup.

Electronic Arts releases Block’d

EA Mobile has announced the release of a new mobile puzzler called Block’d.

Designed for the casual market, Block’d features two modes, both dealing with clearing the entire game grid of multicolored blocks. In marathon mode, players must clear the grid within a certain number of moves, while speed mode pits players against the clock. Various special blocks such as wildcards, bombs, and lightning bolts allow for bigger combos and quicker times.

Electronic Arts announces SimCity Societies

Electronic Arts has announced SimCity Societies for mobile phones.

Based on the popular PC title, SimCity Societies put players in charge of building and managing a thriving city. Players can start from a number of different scenarios or an empty patch of bare land, then place 50 building types to create everything from a police state to a liberal utopia. As the city grows, even more buildings are unlocked, and challenges–such as earthquakes–can upset the delicate balance.

“We are very excited to release the mobile version of SimCity Societies,” said Javier Ferreira, VP of European Publishing at EA. “This is a great game for either someone new to the SimCity experience as it is engaging and rewarding quickly or for loyal SimCity fans to take the their game experience with them anywhere they go. The creativity and immersion offered on the mobile platform demonstrates the universal appeal of SimCity and its ability to translate well to the mobile game experience.”

The game will hit Europe later this month and will follow in North America shortly after.

Electronic Arts announces Dakar 2008

Electronic Arts has announced rally racing game Dakar 2008.

Dakar 2008 is the official game of the Darkar Rally 2008, and features 15 circuits spanning five countries and two continents, in cities like Portugal, Morocco, Mauritania, Mali, and Senegal. Rally mode allows players to consecutively race all 15 increasingly difficult courses, while flag chase mode allows players to catch flags on five exclusive circuits. Quick race mode is available to retry previously beaten courses to achieve a better time.

“Following the success of Dakar 2007, and the continued popularity of this famous race, we’re delighted to bring Dakar 2008 to rally and mobile gaming fans across Europe,” said Javier Ferreira, VP of European Publishing at EA. “Thanks to our continued relationship with the Dakar rally, EA Mobile is recreating the excitement of the rally for the mobile platform.”

The game will be available across Europe on December 14th.

EA Mobile launches Need For Speed ProStreet

It’s still racing season here at QB. EA Mobile has announced the upcoming release of Need For Speed ProStreet.

Players take control of one of 16 high performance cars and go street racing on one of the game’s 11 courses. If you can beat out the 8 other racers, you’ll win cash to upgrade your car in the Tuner Shop or buy a new one.

“We are very excited to release another great mobile version of this racing franchise that is so popular with our fans,” said Travis Boatman, VP of Worldwide Studios at EA Mobile. “Need for Speed ProStreet delivers the adrenaline-fueled racing and drifting that you’ve come to expect from the Need For Speed franchise, while offering accessible gameplay and controls designed specifically for mobile phones.”

The game hits mobile phones on the 26th of October in Europe and the 30th in North America.

EA announces FIFA 08

Electronic Arts has announced FIFA 08, the latest in their long-running football series.

The 08 version boasts 100 licensed teams from the top European leagues, as well as international teams. It also features a new club challenge mode which takes the player through a number of scenarios, such as a trying to win a 1-1 match with only ten men and 30 minutes.

“We have added a huge number of new features to EA SPORTS FIFA08, putting one even closer to the action than ever before. The new ‘in-form’ players function, for example, randomly selects three players before each match and grants them heightened abilities for that match only, which really adds to the excitement,” said Adrian Blunt, Producer at EA Mobile Europe. “Football is all about the passion and atmosphere associated with your team winning and we have tried to capture this in EA SPORTS FIFA 08 by bringing the game alive.”

The game will be available across Europe on September 27th.

Medal of Honor: Airborne hit mobile

Electronic Arts has announced that they have released a new action game called Medal of Honor: Airborne.

The game focuses on aerial invasions in the European Theater. Players take control of Boyd Travers, a soldier in the 82nd Airborne division. Gamer can take Boyd through eight levels, destroying key objects in battles such as D-Day and Market Garden.

“Medal of Honor Airborne on your mobile presents explosive action on the go and stays true to the core experience of the franchise,” said Travis Boatman, vice president of worldwide studios at EA Mobile. “Each level of the game is unique and provides new challenges for players to overcome.”

The game is available now throughout Europe.

New mobile exec at EA

Electronics Arts has announced that they have signed Tim Harrison to their executive roster.

Harrison, who will be joining the team as director of marketing, previously worked at Vodafone and OMTP. He will start his new role in September.

Javier Ferreira, VP of publishing for EA Mobile, commented about the addition: “Tim is one of the mobile games industry’s most widely recognised and respected executives in Europe and we’re excited to have him on board to contribute to the growth of EA Mobile in the region.”

“This is a great opportunity to work with the industry’s leading mobile games publisher and some of the strongest consumer brands out there,” said Harrison. “EA Mobile has been a driving force in maturing the sector and I’m excited to help set the path for further growth in Europe.”

EA and PopCap release new Bejeweled

Electronic Arts and PopCap have announced the release of a new, updated version of Bejeweled, reports MobileIndustry.biz.

The new version features updated sound and graphics. Vibration for certain moves has been included for phones that support it, and, last but not least, there is a new competitive multiplayer mode. US gamers can play against each other in the same region, as well as other multiplayer features such as chat.

The game is available now throughout North America and Europe.
