Nokia mockup shows future handset design and UI

During Nokia’s Capital Markets Day, the above slide came up depicting this touchscreen-only device with a pretty fancy UI. The slide got people in a frenzy and everyone was shouting “fake.” Although it’s a mockup, it was designed by Nokia and it serves as insight into where the company is going with handset design and UI. Recently, I’ve been playing with the Nokia E71 and found the option menus to be the most confusing thing since pre-Rosetta Stone hieroglyphics. For example, here is how you delete an email account that you created but no longer use:

Go to MESSAGING, find the EMAIL you want to delete , press options, press SETTINGS, press on E-MAIL, find the EMAIL you want to delete, press option, and than press the DELETE option.

Have you ever seen more redundant button pressing?

The Nokia N97 at Nokia World 2008 (video)

Slashphone has video of the Nokia N97 getting a live demo at Nokia World 2008. The phone is a nice change from the standard Nokia smartphone. It seems like the HTC Touch Pro had sex with the Nokia E71. The above video is fairly short but it gives you a good idea of what it would be like to use the phone. Any takers?

Rogers BlackBerry Bold Unboxing

Here is the first box for the Bold

Despite much ado, the Canadian BlackBerry 9000 is ready to roll. Getting shipments in has been a bit of a catastrophe at Rogers, considering this Bold, bought at Ottawa’s flagship Rogers Plus, was one of two available.

EDITOR’S NOTE: These shots are taken by our sister site, BlackBerry Cool and thus watermarked as such.

The Nokia E71 makes its New York debut

The Nokia E71 hands on

The Nokia E71 is a great balance between good media device and ultimate efficiency

The Nokia E71 made its debut at Nokia’s flagship store in New York. Why are we happy? Because the E71 is rocking some solid media features: a 3.2 megapixel camera with good video capabilities, up to 8gb MicroSD and a front camera for video calling.

Also, we’re happy because it makes some for some good efficiency with Easy-to-configure email, including support for both email including Mail for Exchange and Intellisync as well as the most popular consumer email services like Gmail, Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail, combined with real-time access to calendar information, contacts and to-do lists.

Oh yeah and it’s $500 unsubsidized. Not too bad.

The Nokia E71 is a super sleek device

The latest in the Nokia E series is looking really sweet. The E71 is incredibly thin at 10mm thick, but it also packs a lot in to a small space with WiFi, HSDPA, A-GPS and even a 3.2 megapixel camera that faces forward for video chat. The screen is just a little smaller than its predecessors at 2.36 QVGA but you get more battery life with the E71. At 20 days of standby, 10.5 hours of GSM talk or 4.5 hours of 3G talk, you’ll be able to rack up a nice sized phone bill. At $500, the phone is a standard price, maybe a little on the expensive side, and you’ll likely be able to pick one up sometime in Q3.
