LG KC910 Renoir vs the Samsung Pixon M8800

Comparing camera phones

Mobile@Mail.Ru put together great comparison shots of the LG Renoir vs the Samsung Pixon. Both phones are 8 MP camera phones and if you’re unsure which one you should buy, these comparisons should help you make up your mind.

Spec-wise, the Renoir is the better camera phone. According to BGR, “the Renoir offers a Schneider-Kreuznach Lens and a Xenon flash which on paper (and in practice) outperforms the cheap plastic lens and dual LED flash of the Pixon. The Renoir also has an active autofocus which the reviewer deems superior to the Pixon’s passive autofocus.”

Tonchidot: Japanese people make the coolest things

While Kyle and I were in San Francisco covering CTIA, there was another event taking place at the same time: the TechCrunch50, which is an event for startups to demo their wares and get bought/funding. One of the highlights of the show was from Tonchidot and it’s Japanese CEO Takahito Iguchi.

The long video (17 minutes!) is worth watching not only as a demonstration of how the right piece of software can turn simple things like location and a camera into a next-level experience, but the enthusiasm Iguchi-san displays for his product while trying to overcome a significant language barrier.

Doesn’t everyone want something like this on their phone? And maybe a cool Japanese dude following you around, saying things like “Imagination!”?

Meghan Asha - best use of iPhone camera and blogging

Screenshot of iPhone camera roll

It’s really hard to use the iPhone camera for blogging because, without an LED flash, the pics usually come out blurry (see pic after the jump). Meghan Asha is a tech “geekette” from NonSociety that uses her iPhone camera in some inventive ways (like the above pic). Her website also rules.
After the jump we’ve got more pics and video about Meghan

The Samsung i8510 rocks an 8 megapixel camera

Close up pictures of the i8510

Camera functionality has always been a bad reason to purchase a device because the industry decided 2 megapixels was all they wanted to fit into the phone. Samsung is working on their latest device, that will bend the N95 over backwards improve on the N95’s camera success and rock the OCHO megapixels. This is a pretty incredible amount of pixels but it’s still second place to the Sony Ericsson C905.

Samsung’s SGH-P960 is practically a TiVo

Samsung has just announced a new phone called the SGH-P960, which includes a number of DVR-like feature for mobile TV. It can pause live TV when a call comes in, so you won’t miss any action on the 2.6 inch screen, and offers picture-in-picture and an on-screen programming guide. It also includes a 3 megapixel camera with LED flash. Unfortunately, there’s no word on pricing and it’s only available in Europe so far, so hopefully we’ll see this bad boy in other markets soon.
