Bplay’s Airshow BlackBerry theme takes off!

Our friends at Bplay are really starting to show off their theme-building skills, this time with an Airshow BlackBerry theme that reminds me of a time when I wanted to be like Chuck Yeager.

The slick animated will run you only $6.99 but is not compatible with the BlackBerry 8830. View some higher res screenshots after the jump.

Free ringtones available from BlackBerry mobile site

Free ringtones from BPlay

A bunch of new free ringtones for BlackBerry popped up on mobile.blackberry.com which kind of look like they didn’t make the final cut to be prepackaged with the BlackBerry Bold, as they’re sporting the familiar Inspired and Pro series names. They’re all the high quality you’d expect right from RIM, and worth nabbing real quick if you’re looking for a taste of the Bold on another device.

The latest magic out of Bplay is the Saltwater theme, complete swimming fish and rising bubbles! This isn’t the first time they’ve animated a background, but it’s still an impressive trick. Saltwater is packing a bottom-dock Precision style that will be coming on the BlackBerry Bold. This is the perfect theme to have on your BlackBerry’s home screen when you’re in the middle of a stressful meeting - just pretend it’s a real aquarium. Pimping out the Pearl

A BlackBerry Pearl
After reading Kyle’s first impressions on his BlackBerry Curve, I decided I should see what I could improve on my Pearl. I’ve had it for a little while now but haven’t really explored much beyond the basic phone, email, calendar, and task features. Being a gamer at heart, I figured I’d give those a shot first.

Smart phone gaming market expanding?

The market for games on BlackBerrys, Treos and other smart phones is growing at a “red-hot” pace, reports an article on the Wall Street Journal.

According to the article, publishers such as Electronic Arts, Gameloft, and Glu–who once considered the smart phone market too small to develop or publish for–are now jumping on board with new offerings. Electronic Arts now offers 30% of its catalog to BlackBerry and devices that use the Windows Mobile platform, while Gameloft recently announced 30 new games for the BlackBerry.

Even Apple’s iPhone, which as yet has no support for third-party games, is being targeted by developers like PopCap, who recently announced that their hit Bejeweled is available via the iPhone’s built in web browser.

Phone manufacturers are spotting the trend as well: BlackBerry creator Research In Motion opened up part of their internal software to game makers to ease development, and Microsoft is working with carriers to develop a solution to making getting games for Windows Mobile devices easier.

Games are still sometimes hard to find however, and users continually turn to Magmic’s Bplay, Handango.com, or Thumbplay.com for their fix.
