Pass the Pigs by THQ Wireless now available for the iPhone

THQ Wireless

THQ Wireless released Pass the Pigs for the iPhone last week. The game is their next casual game title and if it’s anything as fun as De Blob, it will surely be a hit on the App Store. The point of the game is to win by throwing two model pigs across a casino-style table. The player will have points either given or taken away, based on the way the pigs land until ‘Pig Out’. This classic mode supports up to four players and includes three alternative scoring methods.

Pass The Pigs also uses accelerometer technology to give Shake´N´Roll controls to roll the pigs, with varying power, exactly as one would intuitively roll a pair of dice. Alternatively, pigs can be rolled using touch-screen controls, with simple slide or flick motions.

Pass The Pigs is available now for $4.99.

iFishing by Rocking Pocket Games

Now that Apple has stopped their NDA on iPhone development, we get a TON of sneak previews, such as this one from Rocking Pocket Games. I’ve tried Rocking Pocket Games’ “Blue Skies - Air Force Academy” and it was a great casual shooting game. Their latest game, iFishing, looks sweet too. iFishing looks like your typical fishing game until you get into the “cast” mode where you have to bag a big one. The iPhone accelerometer provides a great fishing experience. We’ll keep you updated when it hits the App Store.

Quake 3 on the iPod Touch

This is awesome. Some dedicated hackers have ported Quake 3 over to the iPod Touch. Different kinds of taps will cause you to shoot or to jump, while you control your character by tilting the device and letting the accelerometer do the work. It’s obvious from the video that the controls need a little bit of fine-tuning, but it’s a great example of just how powerful the iPhone and iPod can be.

Artificial Life jumps on iPhone boat

Artificial Life
Just like Gameloft before them, Artificial Life has pledged to release games on the iPhone and iPod, reports Arjan at the Mobile Games Blog. The company will be releasing both licensed and original content, as well as re-makes of some classic games. Artificial Life has also taken note of the iPhone’s sensors, such as the accelerometer, and the touch screen capability, causing CEO Eberhard Schoneburg to say that it’s “more like [a] game console” than a mobile phone platform. The comments from both Gameloft and Artificial Life are a bit surprising, considering that the iPhone wasn’t considered to be a “game changer” back in March of ‘07. Regardless, Artificial Life will be releasing their games, changed or unchanged, in the second and third quarters of this year.
