iFun have a program that lets you use your iPhone as a WiiMote-like device. You sync your iPhone with iFun’s website and you can play iGolf in a Wii-like fashion. The biggest problem that the Web is talking about for this software is the fact that your iPhone has no special cord to attach your phone to your hand. The WiiMote has been known to fly out of your hands and smash into television sets. The idea of my iPhone flying into the TV is my worst nightmare. On the other hand, the concept is great and it could be really fun.

LG’s Prada was among the first touch screen devices in Korea. It’s elegant design and expensive branding made it a hit with Seoul’s young and trendy. It’s successor, the Prada 2, will be arriving in Europe along with a Bluetooth-enabled watch called the Prada Link (model LG-LBA-T950) that flashes call notifications and shows SMS messages. The Prada 2 will have all the great specs you would expect from a luxury device such as 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, 5 megapixel camera, haptic feedback, video calling, slider QWERTY keypad, and a 240 x 400 3″ touchscreen. Oh yeah, and it’s 300 euros.

Japan’s NTT DoCoMo have put out some incredible concept devices and proven their ability to think outside of the box when it comes to mobile phones. According to the Business Standard, DoCoMo is planning an Android device next year. The device will be co-developed with Korean telecom KT Freetel of which DoCoMo owns 10%.

Being the first Android handset in Japan, there are huge expectations. With a country that has such an incredible mobile educated population, combined with a completely open platform, I’m hoping Japanese consumers and developers will push Android to its limits. The phone is also expected to be about 20% cheaper than other smartphones because of the savings with an open source OS. Stay tuned!

UMA stands for Universal Mobile Access and it’s the technology that allows your phone to switch between networks seamlessly. You’ll notice this technology when your phone switches between WiFi and cell tower. The above figure shows how UMA works and it also describes one of the benefits of UMA which is better coverage via WiFi. Your mobile device will use WiFi to send a signal through the Internet back to the carrier, and thus using the hotspot to boost coverage. This isn’t the best part of UMA though. It will actually save you money.

When a phone is using UMA to connect to the carrier through WiFi, you carrier loses the ability to track your location. Think about the possibilities of duping your carrier into thinking you’re somewhere you’re not. By connecting via WiFi, you can avoid roaming charges, which range from $1 a minute to $5 a minute. Some carriers such as T-Mobile offer a $10 per month charge that gives you unlimited calls via WiFi. This means that you can reduce your minute plans and call almost entirely on WiFi thus making your phone similar to a VoIP device.

So when you’re buying a device, consider a UMA device because it will save you lots of cash. Here are some UMA devices on the market today:

MacWorld has confirmed with the Swedish-Finnish carrier Telia is developing an MMS-enabling app for the iPhone. The app will hit the market in the next two months. Although the app is launching first in Sweden, it should be only a matter of time until it hits North American markets. Hopefully this becomes a trend and some other foreign market develops copy&paste as well as full landscape keyboard support. Once all of that trickles over to us, we’ll have iPhone’s with virtually nothing to complain about. Scratch that, we love complaining.

A little while back we told you about the new Google voice-based search for iPhone. It comes in the form of an update to the Google Mobile App for iPhone. As the above video demonstrates, the search is incredibly easy. All you have to do is say search queries such as “how big is a giant squid?” and the app will read your voice and plug it into Google search.

Although both Yahoo (OneSearch and Nuance) and Microsoft (TellMe) both have voice-based search programs, I have downloaded and tried Google’s product and I can tell you that it worked PERFECTLY for me. Check it out on the app store for yourself.

American Airlines are now offering QR code-based boarding on domestic flights from Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport. The new electronic boarding passes will be available for Los Angeles and John Wayne outbound flights starting on November 17.

“You now have the option to have your boarding pass sent directly to your mobile phone or other mobile device – saving paper and time.”

How to use the new Mobile Boarding Pass

1. Check in on AA.com from your mobile device. Choose “Email for use on Cell Phone or other Mobile Device” option and include the e-mail address for your web-enabled mobile phone and/or mobile device.

2. Check your email from your mobile device. Follow the link on the email to retrieve your Mobile Boarding Pass.

3. Save the boarding pass to your device. Click the “Save Boarding Pass” button directly below the barcode to save it to your phone for easy access at the security checkpoint (check your phone/PDA manual to locate where the Boarding Pass will save).

4. Proceed to Security. When you arrive at security, make sure the entire barcode is visible on the screen of your mobile phone or mobile device and have the backlight setting set to the brightest mode possible. If you have any problems, you will be given the opportunity to print a paper boarding pass at the self-service machines.

We’ve seen a number of iPhone battery enhancers in the past year and yet they seem to disappear before anyone can get their hands on one. For example, iPhone Battery Sleeve by FastMac went quickly out of supply and will resume shipping soon. Also, Mophie’s Juice Pack seemed promising but I don’t think it has even been released yet. I’m hoping this won’t be the case with the Power Slider by Incase.

The Power Slider by Incase promises to double your phone’s power for up to 5 hours talk time on the 3G network (10 hours on 2G), increase your audio playback time to 26 hours, and increase your video playback time to 7 hours. You can even sync your device while the battery pack is attached. We don’t have any details about pricing yet, but the pack should be available starting November 28.

Hairline cracks have been popping up on various iPhones including our intern’s iPhone. He has a black 1st generation iPhone with a long crack on the back plating and he is not alone. Our intern called Rogers and he will be getting a new phone. Also, Apple said they are waiving the $30 replacement fee because they said this issue is so widespread. I’m not sure if Apple will do this for everyone, but it’s worth asking when you call.

“Although Apple was and is aware that the iPhones were and are defective, and that consumers have experienced repeated instances of cracked housing, Apple has nevertheless allowed the defectively designed iPhones to be sold to the public,” read the lawsuit.
