We’ve been publishing all of Qplaze’s press releases because they’re awesome. Most press release have this annoying standard feel like “The leading publisher of the best mobile games in the world brings you the most amazing mobile game that has ever existed.” And the game sucks. Qplaze, on the other hand, brings you a masterpiece of literature that is thoroughly enjoying to read. I sent Ivan Konstantinov an email with some simple questions and he got right back to me.
Hooah, that’s a sale, alright. Punch in the coupon code JULY30 at checkout and get 30% off deals at Bplay - that includes, themes, ringtones and games. Feeling patriotic? Why not grab the Stars and Stripes theme, or O Canada? Maybe looking for a more political angle? Democrat and Republican themes are still up. If games are more your bag, Call of Duty 3 and Whitehouse Rumble are both in the 4th. of July spirit. Looking for ringtones? Bplay has a whole category of patriotic ringtones for ya. Of course, not everyone’s the flag-waving type - maybe you’d rather just get a good deal a slick iBerry theme. And hey, if you’ve got the Wallet application loaded, Bplay can now get all your payment info from there.
Here I am playing Sega’s latest in the Sonic franchise at Sega’s booth at BREW 2008. The game has simple controls and involves pressing one button to hit your targets and then up to jump. It took me a little while to figure out the “up” part so I was really terrible at the game. Even after I figured it out, I didn’t realize you had to keep pressing it. So all in all, the game was good and simple, but I could have done with a “PRESS UP IDIOT!” warning on the screen.
Zump is a great game that I picked up in Korea. The name might actually be “jump” but Koreans constantly confuse the letters ‘j’ and ‘z’. Zump is a simple one-thumb game that is extremely difficult but super fun at the same time. The game is developed by a company called Animal, but I can’t seem to find any website for them on Google. Weird. Continue reading ‘Zump Reviewed’
I picked up Guitar Hero 3 for my Blackberry and it was truly awesome. The game has got a great soundtrack, simple interface and pretty terrific artwork. It definitely meets all the criteria we have for a great mobile game.
GH3 comes with enough features to keep you playing for a long time. The mobile version gives you access to 2 characters with whom you’ll be rocking, as well as 15 songs, several guitars, three difficulties and enough objectives to keep you fully entertained. The playlist of songs is fairly righteous too. Some of my favorites include, “Rock You Like a Hurricane” by the Scorpions and “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper. Another bonus is that you’ll never get bored of playing the same songs because there are 3 new songs to download monthly upon purchasing a subscription. We’re doing a little tour of some popular movie-to-game translations here at QuicklyBored, and the next game in the roster is Gameloft’s Shrek the Third: The Mobile Game. For those of you who have been living on the moon under a rock with Plaster of Paris in your ears while wearing a blindfold, Shrek is Dreamworks’ uncouth ogre protagonist who speaks with a Scottish brogue and seeks pretty much what most of us seek: To be left alone and do what he feels like in the privacy of his own home. Shrek the Third is the third movie in the series and once again brings the sarcastic-but-sanitized brand of humor that is Shrek’s hallmark to life on the big screen and product tie-ins everywhere. In our short series of reviews spotlighting movies that get made into mobile games, we unveil a real gem in the mix: Warner’s 300: The Mobile Game. Based on the movie of the same name, this game strives to bring the brutal story of 300 Spartans who held back the massive Persian army as they tried to take Greece as their own. The movie told a pretty-darned-inspiring tale about the steel-jawed Spartans, led by King Leonidas, who were the Persians’ better due to their gruelling training and iron-like fortitude. Fans of epic battles, splintering shields, and countless Persian soldiers being put in the pain locker will agree that this was a great film. Continue reading ‘300: The Mobile Game’
There’s been a good spate of film-to-game tie-ins lately, and we’re gonna look at a few of them over the course of the next few weeks to compare and see how well pop culture is distilled from movie screen to mobile screen. Few hits this year stand out like Transformers, and the official movie game for mobile makes an excellent choice to first go under the microscope. Continue reading ‘Transformers’
