US mobile phone users increasingly into mobile entertainment

Mobile entertainment

QuicklyBored potential readers soar!

A survey by Artificial Life of US phone subscribers, reveals that 46% of users are using their device for mobile entertainment purposes. The survey also shows that smartphone users are very interested in mobile entertainment content (87.5% of users) and 56% of people who do not own a smartphone, want one. Good news people! My question is: If you don’t use your phone for mobile entertainment, where have you been? On Mars with your eyes sowed shut and your fingers in your ears? Harsh.

The HTC Dream G1 vs BlackBerry Storm vs iPhone 3G - A consumer report

iphone 3g vs htc dream g1 vs blackberry storm

Touch screen smartphones are going to dominate the consumer market with their friendly UI, innovative games, true HTML browsing and general rich media capabilities. The market has now hit a point where there are 3 incredible touch screen devices aimed directly at prosumers. The HTC Dream G1, the iPhone 3G and the BlackBerry Storm. Of course there are more touch screen phones like the Instinct and the HTC Touch Diamond, but the 3 phones I have chosen are direct competitors. It’s an exciting time because no matter how the market divides itself, rest assured the smartphone consumer market will explode over the next few years. The questions I would like to answer are: what phone is best for who and why?

Vayyoo vPost application for BlackBerry: instant restaurant review

Vayyoo for BlackBerry

Vayyoo (Pronounced vy-you) lets BlackBerry users quickly capture and bundle together pictures, voice, text, forms, video, and location (via GPS) through an incredibly easy to use interface.

Since Vayyoo is based out of Ottawa, Canada, and so are we, I therefore got the opportunity to hang out with their marketing department and see what their product can do for the average consumer (currently target towards enterprise). We went to Oz Kafe on Elgin Street for their special once a month Chef night. The food is absolutely spectacular and it was a great opportunity to showcase what this product can do.

Colorware can paint your BlackBerry Bold

Colorware paints the BlackBerry Bold

Have you ever bought a new device and wanted that one color they didn’t have in stock? Usually the color won’t dissuade someone from purchasing their new device, but it’s one of those things that will make you not 100% satisfied with the purchase.

Well forget about that! You can get an incredibly pro paint job on your device by Colorware. Just check out the Wolfpack job they did on the above BlackBerry Bold. The paint job costs $174 and you’ll have the sweetest paint job in town.

Free ringtones available from BlackBerry mobile site

Free ringtones from BPlay

A bunch of new free ringtones for BlackBerry popped up on mobile.blackberry.com which kind of look like they didn’t make the final cut to be prepackaged with the BlackBerry Bold, as they’re sporting the familiar Inspired and Pro series names. They’re all the high quality you’d expect right from RIM, and worth nabbing real quick if you’re looking for a taste of the Bold on another device.

Toy Bot Diaries by IUGO - First impressions

I played IUGO’s Toy Bot Diaries: Entry 1, and I have to say I am hooked. The game makes full use of the iPhone’s touchscreen and it’s a great way to spend either 15 minutes or more. This is just an intro video and we’ll be posting more to come. Things are just a little hectic here preparing for CTIA. Stay tuned and we’ll walk you through some of the more difficult levels.

Yep, it’s that time of the year again - bust out the books, call in the loans, and register for classes. The Definitive BlackBerry Bold versus iPhone 3G Browser Comparison (video)

While previous results had been contested, we hope to put the BlackBerry Bold versus iPhone 3G browser debate to bed. Taking some time with our brand-spanking-new Bold and Kyle’s iPhone, we put the two beasts through some browsing hoops to see who can get through the fastest. We tested on Wi-Fi only, 3G-only, both with and without JavaScript enabled. Sadly, our results are pretty conclusive - the iPhone’s browser is faster. To be fair, it’s not by much - maybe a two to three second delay, depending on the site, but it’s enough to notice the difference. We’re also running on BIS, so don’t have enterprise servers doing a lot of the compression for us. The Bold’s browser is still a huge upgrade for BlackBerry, and definitely more enjoyable than what I was using on the Pearl. As much as we might like to call this test “definitive” (we ran the test around five times to make sure it was), your mileage may vary - if you’ve got both devices in hand, take some time to wipe the caches and run a few tests. We’d love to hear if our results match up, and love even more to hear if they don’t.

iControl pad - turn your iPhone into a PSP-style gaming device

A mobile controller for the iphone

The iControl pad has been picking up some fame over at Gizmodo and TouchArcade. I remember seeing video about this back in June when the pad was just in development. The iControl pad has four face buttons, a D pad, Start/Select and an LED to show when it’s in use. This is exactly what console gaming needs for the iPhone. I’d love to try it out on some of the emulators that have been popping up.
