RIM’s BlackBerry application store official!

RIM App Store

RIM’s BlackBerry application store went official at the BlackBerry Developer Conference in Santa Clara California. The store will take 2 forms: a new online application storefront and a new on-device storefront. The storefront will go live March 2009 and BlackBerry application developers can begin submitting their applications and content for inclusion in the storefront in December 2008.

The storefront will give 80 percent of the revenue generated from applications to the developers. Take that Apple! RIM is also working with PayPal to develop the payment systems. Something I’m not all that happy about is the fact that the on-device storefronts will be carrier controlled. Thanks for bringing us back to the Walled Garden.

“Who needs a RIM-E-Mart? I dooooooooooooooooooo.”
