I had a chance to sit down with MocoSpace at CTIA and they’ve got some great news about their site. Users have skyrocketed to about 3.6 million users! They’re also trucking along very nicely with new artists and songs uploaded to their site.
In case you’ve been on Mars with your eyes sowed shut and your fingers in your ears, MocoSpace is one of the largest mobile internet sites in the world. They are also the largest pure mobile social network in the US with over 2 billion pageviews per month.
MocoSpace, as we’ve written before, recently signed an exclusive agreement with Street Records Corporation to exclusively pre-release tracks by Def Jam artists. Members listen and give feedback, ultimately determining whether to release the song as a single.
They’ve had some great response from artists about this artist to fan communication. Apparently, Nas and LL Cool J check the comments on their page constantly and are pretty active in the community.
New artists coming to MocoSpace? In late September, expect Ne-Yo to hit the site!
We also had the chance to check out MocoSpace and DefJam’s party at CTIA and it was awesome! Although we didn’t vPost it, we’ll be sure to get you some footage.
I’m excited about the potential for MocoSpace to become a means of listening to leaked tracks and good music on your mobile. You can follow people on MocoSpace whose music taste you love, and access their profile from your mobile. With the introduction of a music player, which MocoSpace is currently working on, you’ll be able to use your friends list to rock out to your favorite tracks. I should note that all of this is my own personal opinion about the company’s potential, but when I talked about it with Casey Jones, he was totally down.
Be sure to check out the Street Records Corporation page on MocoSpace where they have the “Streets Don’t Lie” campaign. Check out leaked tracks and let them know what you think of it. You can even use the MocoLove feature, recently added to the site, to let them know you have urban respect for them.
