Mobile broadband will boost social and economic development for the developing world

Mobile user in Bangladesh

Sony Ericsson is leading the charge to introduce a new scheme that will help boost social and economic development in the 3rd world, and they’re starting with Bangladesh. The plan is to demonstrate how 3G/HSPA technology can improve productivity and quality of life in the hopes that other nations will catch on and mobile education will spread through the masses.

The project, entitled Alokito Bangladesh (Enlightened Bangladesh), will include a mobile health and mobile learning segment and will run from early August to the end of October this year.

The project pilot is focused on m-learning. Remote teachers who are connected to the end users via broadband, will educate users about health care in their country. Also part of the project is an m-surveillance segment. This segment will include video calling and entertainment.

Arun Bansal, President, Ericsson Bangladesh, says: “This pioneering project will showcase the full potential of broadband services for the first time in the country and how an efficient and affordable 3G/HSPA broadband service can help serve as a blueprint for the widespread introduction of internet connectivity.”
