How-to: Turn your favourite mp3 into a ringtone for Windows Mobile

Making a ringtone for Windows Mobile is easy
A little birdy told me that putting a ringtone on their phone is one of the first things new phone owners look to do. So today, for your auditory pleasure, I’ll show you how to put a ringtone on your Windows Mobile device!

You’ll be glad to hear that it’s actually dead simple!

Ringtone installation quicklist:

What you need:
Your favourite song or sound as an mp3 file

The file is right there for you

Voila! Easy as pie, right? Benefits? Now you can do this with any sound/song mp3 that you’d like! So you can tell your friends that if you don’t answer their call right away it’s likely because you’re rocking out to AC/DC or groovin’ to P-Funk instead. It’s a noble sacrifice.

My HTC TyTN II has it even easier. There’s a folder in My Documents called “My Ringtones” and any files placed in there show up in the ringtones list. Maybe this folder doesn’t appear on certain brands.

I found an ideal compression setting for ringtones is mono 48kbps. This compensates for the lousy speaker on most devices.

Now, would anyone happen to know how to use a custom file as an alarm sound? I hate all the built-in alarm sounds.

i think there should be a single notion that some carriers like AT&T have a limitation on the size of sound files to be set as a ringtone. My experience says that AT&T has set this mark to 300 KB for their devices in the market.
