A little birdy told me that putting a ringtone on their phone is one of the first things new phone owners look to do. So today, for your auditory pleasure, I’ll show you how to put a ringtone on your Windows Mobile device!
You’ll be glad to hear that it’s actually dead simple!
Ringtone installation quicklist:
What you need: Your favourite song or sound as an mp3 file
Difficulty Level: Very easy!
Time it takes: Literally takes minutes
Cost: However much you’re willing to pay for an mp3 file
Installation:
1. Choose the sound/song file on your desktop/laptop that you would like to use as a ringtone.

2. Connect your device to your desktop/laptop via USB.
3. Locate your device via My Computer as shown in image below:

4. Explore your device. Open up the devices internal drive (storage doesn’t seem to work well with ringtone access):

5. Locate “Application Data” as seen below:

6. In “Application Data”, locate “Sounds”:

7. Drag and drop the sound/song file into “Sounds”:

8. File should appear in the “Sounds” folder:

9. Go to your device and open up “Settings” in the Start menu:

10. Under “Settings” open up “Phone”:

11. Under “Phone” drop down the “Ringtone” menu:

12. Drop down the menu and search for your sound/song file:

13. Once you’ve selected your sound/song file, you can hit the play button to preview it. Then hit ‘ok’ when you’re ready to set it as your ringtone.

Voila! Easy as pie, right? Benefits? Now you can do this with any sound/song mp3 that you’d like! So you can tell your friends that if you don’t answer their call right away it’s likely because you’re rocking out to AC/DC or groovin’ to P-Funk instead. It’s a noble sacrifice.

I found an ideal compression setting for ringtones is mono 48kbps. This compensates for the lousy speaker on most devices.
Now, would anyone happen to know how to use a custom file as an alarm sound? I hate all the built-in alarm sounds.
