I needed a new internet browser for my phone because the BlackBerry browser just wasn’t cutting it for me. The browser I have for the 8330 is a little better than the older browsers, like the one you would use for the BlackBerry Pearl. When you start up the Curve’s browser, you go straight to a homepage that will show you bookmarks and recent pages visited. It looks a little cleaner than the older browser’s homepage too.
I’ve heard Opera Mini was the place to be so I decided to download it. I documented the steps so you can follow along!
First, you’ll want to head over to Opera Mini’s website here.
The easiest way to download software (especially if you have a Mac) is OTA. Go through the steps to have the download link sent to you via SMS. Next, just follow the easy steps provided by the website.
Receive your SMS
Within few minutes you should receive an SMS message with a link to download Opera Mini. Follow this link. If your phone does not allow you to follow this link, please retype the link into your existing phone browser. (It’s pretty short so it should be easy!)
Download Opera Mini
Once you reach the linked page, please click on the “Download Opera Mini” link. Your phone type will be detected and your phone will begin to download the appropriate version of Opera Mini.
Now it didn’t work for me but hopefully you have more success. I never recieved a text message so I went back to the site and tried another method. It seemed like downloading through the phone’s WAP browser would be easier. Here is what the site tells you to do:
Install via mobile download
1. Point your phone’s WAP browser to http://mini.opera.com/ and click on Download Opera Mini.
2. Answer ‘Yes’ to all installation messages and enjoy browsing the full Web, right on your mobile phone!
I chose to download the “high memory version” because, well, it sounded pretty pro. The installation process started and I chose to run the application when it was finished.
