We’ve met a lot of really great companies including: mSpot, Zed, I-Play, GestureTek, Innaworks, IUGO, Glu, EA, Sega, TapaTap, Mobitween and JuiceCaster. It’s also been a great experience for getting your photo in the BREW magazine dressed as a club kid. Continue reading ‘BREW 2008: Where the WiFi at?’

Mike Yuen

Qualcomm announced at BREW this week a huge partnership with Adobe and unveiled their Plaza initiative. Now, you could read the press releases, wait for me to regurgitate them for you, or listen to Mike Yuen, Qualcomm’s Senior Director of Gaming, break down why they’re important to you, the average mobile user. I recommend the latter.

Qualcomm and Universal Music team up, Kanye coming to your mobile

You can be my BREW tonight

Qualcomm and Universal Music issued a joint announcement today that they’ve partnered to bring more of Universal’s direct-to-consumer content to your mobile phone. What does that mean, exactly? You’re going to be able to get content like ringtones, video ringones and wallpapers of your favorite Universal artists directly from Universal to your phone without having to deal with those pesky carriers. Universal’s mobile offering will be available through their artist Web and WAP sites, CD packaging and their GetMusic.com portal.

You can read the full release after the jump, but why bother? It’s Kanye, baby!

The QuicklyBored Podcast - Episode 28 - May 29, 2008: BREW 2008 Interviews: Jill Braff (Glu Mobile)

Glu Mobile is one of the top mobile game publishers, period (Super KO anyone?). So when Kyle and I ran into Jill Braff, Glu’s senior VP of Global Publishing, in the elevator after we arrived at Hyatt, we knew we had to get her on an interview podcast. So we promptly kidnapped her and forced her to talk about Glu’s global strategy, the realities of being a public company, how great the iPhone is, and when Super KO 2 is coming out. Enjoy.

BREW2008 Day 1 Impressions

Douglas is a BREW2008 sponsor

While I wait for my wicked awesome interview with Glu Mobile’s Jill Braff, I thought I’d hit you guys with some quick impressions from day 1 of BREW.

**Twitter Sucks** Seriously. Initiate a pay service so I don’t have my tweets go down during a great conference, forcing me to write up a full impressions post to keep our readers informed about the QB day to day.

**The sessions are GREAT** We arrived late in the afternoon yesterday, but the two we caught were dynamite. Anders Evju of I-Play gave a great talk about why essentially QuicklyBored exists (read Kyle’s thoughts here), and the flash lite panel moderated by Eric Goldberg has me wondering when I’ll be able to discover the next great mobile game via Facebook. Expect more on both to follow.

**The food is GREAT** Chicken dumplings. That’s all I’m going to say.

**No wi-fi is lame** Qualcomm, I love you, but I need to get my blog on from everywhere, not just the press room.

**I’m lost** Maybe it’s just the jet lag, but every year I come to the Manchester Grand Hyatt and have no idea how to navigate it. This place is huge.

**BREWfest** Lightning crashes. That’s all I’m going to say. Except, I heard a rumor that last year’s BREWfest dance competition winner is looking to defend her crown. I have 2:1 that she does, any takers?

Are We Making Games The Right Size for the Right People?

Doug and I showed up to this session a little late and came in during Anders Evju of I-Play talking about casual games versus hard core games. We walked in while he was showing some well-known stats including the fact that girls dominate casual games and boys hardcore games. QuicklyBored has arrived at BREW 2008!!

Kyle left his phone in Chicago

Hey guys! After a solid 12 hours of travel (planes, trains, camels… etc.) QB has finally touched down in sunny San Diego. Expect content to come as soon as we de-louse ourselves. OR, you could follow me on Twitter to keep up to date on all my ramblings. Kyle lost his phone somewhere in Chicago, so don’t expect him to be doing much of anything other than crying.
