From YouTube to social networking to Digg and other sites, user-generated content is king. Now Thomas N. Burg, marketing manager for Playyoo, is saying in an editorial that user-generated games are the next big thing. Their site offers casual games built with Flash Lite, but their Game Creator allows users to modify the graphics and sounds and even the rules of many of the games, then share their creation with others.
It’s a neat idea, but most user-generated content is, to put it bluntly, awful. Most people aren’t game designers because most people can’t design games, let alone graphics. More games will be made than elsewhere, because it’s a lot easier than making a FPS mod or a MMOG like most budding game designers try, but that simply makes it harder to sort the wheat from the chaff.
