Guitar Hero 3 for mobile reviewed

GH3
I picked up Guitar Hero 3 for my Blackberry and it was truly awesome. The game has got a great soundtrack, simple interface and pretty terrific artwork. It definitely meets all the criteria we have for a great mobile game.

GH3 comes with enough features to keep you playing for a long time. The mobile version gives you access to 2 characters with whom you’ll be rocking, as well as 15 songs, several guitars, three difficulties and enough objectives to keep you fully entertained. The playlist of songs is fairly righteous too. Some of my favorites include, “Rock You Like a Hurricane” by the Scorpions and “School’s Out” by Alice Cooper. Another bonus is that you’ll never get bored of playing the same songs because there are 3 new songs to download monthly upon purchasing a subscription.

Something I’d like to see more of from Guitar Hero fans is showmanship. When you’re playing it on the console, or mobile, it’s really important to throw up the horns and shout at the devil. Really pro Guitar Hero fans will put the device over their head and shred like Jimmi Hendrix but if you’re not on that level the least you can do is a huge Kiss tongue for the fans.

GH3 Mobile supports PMD audio for BREW devices, as well as MP3 quality sound for Windows Mobile devices. The songs are shortened but all the best parts are left in. Having such great sound quality is really important for the game. Although you won’t get the best quality on some Blackberrys, Windows Mobile devices make for awesome gameplay.

The major criticism I have of this game is that once again, the button positioning can mess you up. On the easier settings it is a total breeze but once you start shredding in expert mode, the button mashing becomes a little intense. The only way to solve this would be to creatively spread out the required buttons over the device so you don’t get mess up during those crucial moments.

Another great feature of this game is the leaderboard. Playing Guitar Hero on the PS3 was awesome when you could check your rank online. Eventually it got ridiculous with people having scores that were so high it would baffle Steven Hawking. On the mobile version, get ready to see how your skills compare to all the other great mobile rockers.

GH3 was originally developed by Hands-On mobile and it was the good people over at Magmic games that have brought it to my Blackberry. Although the game is $15, a steep for a mobile game, it’s actually worth it.
