Com2uS launches Action Hero 3D

Com2uS has announced the launch of Action Hero 3D, a follow-up to the action/platformer Super Action Hero.

Action Hero 3D is the first 3D title in the series. It adds over 200 stages to explore, as well as 26 bosses. The controls are designed to be simple for beginners, but are powerful enough to unleash powerful punching and kicking combos.

Alawar NewEdge Mobile and Superscape team up

Alawar NewEdge mobile and Superscape has signed a deal to distribute 3D games throughout the burgeoning Russian market.

“According to our estimates, Russian market has lately become ready for introduction of 3D mobile games,” said Vadim Sytnikov, Head of the Superscape Russia Branch. “The mobile handsets have improved greatly, and users have got taste of quality mobile content. Thus, we are willing to provide our best 3D mobile games titles for Russian market.”

Namco launches Atlantis Sky Patrol

Namco Networks has announced the launch of a mobile version of the PC game Atlantis Sky Patrol.

The game is the first of a number of Big Fish games that will be heading to mobile as part of the deal between them and Namco that was announced back in July. In the game, players must knock out a doomsday device by shooting and matching chains of colored marbles. The marbles move through a track, and players must stop them before they reach the core and the device explodes.

Tomb Raider: Legend Mobile snags Best Action Game at VGA

Eidos Interactive’s Tomb Raider: Legend Mobile won the award for Best Mobile Action Game at the 2007 Spike Video Game awards, as well as a nomination for Mobile Game of the Year.

An adaptation of the 2006 console title, Legend features full 3D graphics and allows Lara to jump, roll, shoot, sidestep, climb, and use a grappling hook. It uses a custom engine designed to take full advantage of the capabilities of 3D handsets. The game was the first part of Eidos’ planned expansion into the mobile space.

Another Eidos game, Prism: Light the Way, was nominated for best casual mobile game.

GlobalFun to develop Tom & Jerry game

GlobalFun has announced that they will be publishing a game based on the cartoon Tom & Jerry as part of their continuing partnership with Turner Broadcasting.

The game features the famous cat and mouse duo in 12 maze-like levels located through out the house, garden, and basement. Players guide Jerry, the mouse, through the levels while avoiding traps and, of course, Tom. There are also power-ups and hidden rooms scattered throughout the mazes to keep things interesting.

“All the games commissioned with GlobalFun to date have been very popular with Cartoon Network viewers,” said Casey Hardwood, SVP of interactive wireless and communication at Turner. “Tom and Jerry has been a firm favourite with our audience so creating the game will increase our offerings for children.”

A title for the game hasn’t yet been decided, and there’s no word on a release date.

THQ and Playboy sign deal, announce Playboy Games: Pool Party


THQ Wireless signed a multi-year deal to develop a number of non-nude Playboy-branded games, the first of which will be Playboy Games: Pool Party.

Pool Party consists of a set of mini-games depicting bikini-clad playmates at the famous Playboy Mansion. The girls will have poolside water balloon fights, waterslide slaloms, and mechanical bull riding in the water.

Vivendi Games announces 2008 lineup

Vivendi Games Mobile has announced the lineup of game they’ll be releasing in the first half of 2008.

First up is Celebrity Hangman, which allows users write their own pop-culture-themed word lists and submit then to Vivendi for other users to download, follow by a new multiplayer dart sim called Pub Darts 180.

Hudson releases Bomberman Land: Battles

Hudson Entertainment has announced the release of Bomberman Land: Battles, following the success of Super Bomberman.

Battles features 32 maps with branching paths to add a new twist to the classic Bomberman style of play. At the end of each level, players have a choice between three different paths. There are 15 power-ups for the character scattered among the numerous different branches that can be followed.

Glu announces first quarter European lineup

It’s a busy day for Glu: they have announced the line-up of games they’ll be releasing throughout Europe in Q1 of 2008.

First up is Colin McRae: DiRT, the mobile version of the latest in the popular Colin McRae series of games from Codemasters. DiRT adds rally cross, hill climb, and CORR racing to the traditional point-to-point rally racing.

Glu to acquire Superscape?

Glu Mobile has announced a tender offer to acquire publisher Superscape Group.

Glu is offering 10 pence for each Superscape share value for a total of around $36 million. The company, which was founded in 1993, is headquartered in San Clemente, CA, but has offices in Moscow and Fleet, Hampshire, UK. They’ve released titles such as Gum Blox, Capone Casino, Alien versus Predator, and Fight Club. Glu hopes that the acquisition will greatly expand their global reach.
