An interview with Magmic games

John CriswickGames on Deck has posted an interview with John Criswick and Nicholas Reichenbach of developer/publisher Magmic Games.

Magmic is best know for their BlackBerry titles and their game portal Bplay, but develops and publishes for other handhelds as well.

The interview covers the beginnings of the company, and their BlackBerry sales and development as contrasted with the rest of the mobile spectrum.

Games on Deck: You’re obviously very able to reach consumers on BlackBerry, but how hard are you finding it to reach consumers on other devices?

Nicholas Reichenbach: You’ve got this whole infrastructure set up on feature phones that means it’s pretty much the carrier’s deck and if you don’t have a movie brand they don’t want to prioritize that.

But Magmic has high creativity, and we’re trying to create games in our studio that are unique, and that’s really how with, say, Ka-Glom we proved ourselves to carriers.

John Criswick: The only significant carrier that hasn’t picked it up is Verizon.

The rest of the interview is definitely worth checking out at the link above, even if only because you get to see an interview between people with the initials GOD and JC.
