Ozura and ChinaByte announce Mostar

Ozura Mobile and ChinaByte have teamed up to release Mostar, China’s first tournament-based community mobile site.

Mostar offers both multiplayer and standalone game, as well as tournament games. The top 10 players at the end of tournament rounds have the opportunity to win prizes. Ozura and ChinaByte made the move based on a study recently released by IDC Research. Their report states that that China’s mobile subscribers–which, at 449 million, already outstrip the total population of the US and Japan combined–will see significant growth between 2007 and 2011. IDC believes that China could add as many as 160 new subscribers, with a rise of 11% this year alone, and an increase of of 24%, or 660 million total subscribers, by 2010. Ozura expansion to this space wasn’t without problems, however.

“In terms of language, we do understand Chinese. However, most of our correspondences with ChinaByte were communicated in English,” said Ozura’s H.E. Mah. “Sometimes, we did encounter minor miscommunication that resulted in prolonging the process of deployment. Nevertheless, we managed to get everything back on track even when we were behind schedule.”

Ozura has introduced a virtual money system for Mostar, dubbed the “M coin,” which serves as prepaid credit for users to download games and other services offered by Mostar. While the coins are currently available only via WAP, Ozura and ChinaByte plan to expand the system to offer M coins via scratch vards, Interactive Voice Response, credit cards, and bank cards.

They’ve also released a new game exclusively for the new site called Nara Loves You. It’s based on the popular Korean entertainment icon, Jang Nara, who will be performing all of her songs in Chinese at a concert in Beijing.
