Indestructo Tank
At first glance, Indestructo Tank appears to be another one of those side-scrolling shooter games where your rocket launcher on the bottom of the screen is meant to take out targets that appear overhead or in front of you while narrowly avoiding death. Not so; you’re actually a completely indestructible tank (hence the name) that’s actually trying to get hit by bombs (which you shrug off) in order to be "bounced" into the air and ram your enemies. If you manage to bust an enemy this way, you get a bit more momentum and can bounce to the next one if you plan it just right. Keep your tank bouncing from one foe to the next, busting them open on the way, and rack up the points. In particular, we liked the "physics" feel; the tank being airborne and kareening from side to side will have you tilting and leaning your own body with the action without even realizing it.
Why it would work on a phone:
As will come up many times in this article, controls are everything… and simple controls are usually great candidates for mobile phone games. Indestructo Tank uses a simple control set that would easily adapt itself to the four-way thumbstick or direction pad sported by most mobile phones. We also like the "get in and get out" factor; it’s a quick, engaging game that takes mere seconds to get into and can be dropped at a moments notice. It’s also colorful, sounds good, easy to learn, etc… but the controls and the "get in and get out" factor make this a great candidate for mobiles.
Why it wouldn’t:
Almost any game that’s translated from any platform to mobile phones is going to suffer from a scaling problem; what appears to be reasonably-sized on a larger screen will be positively microscopic on a phone. Indestructo Tank suffers from this shortcoming as a mobile game concept (and few others), and a "translation" rather than a straight-up port in which scale and physics are adjusted for the smaller screen would make it solid.
