David Gosen, CEO of I-play, spoke about the future of gaming at the Casual Games Association’s Casual Connect Conference. His belief is that mobile phones will be the ultimate mass market gaming devices, and console gaming will become more of a niche market.
Data from Informa Telecoms & Media and Montgomery indicate that the mobile platform has five times the installed base of consoles, and the gap is only expected widen, with a forecast of 2.8 billion mobile users next year. IDC and Montgomery released data projecting mobile game sales to double that of consoles by 2009.
Here, Gosen communicates his feelings plainly:
Its reach and multi-functionality positions mobile as the number one mass market entertainment device of the future.”
Informa has forecasted the mobile gaming industry to reach $11.2 billion by 2011.
