Eidos exec lauds cross-platform releases

Eidos director of new media and IT is a big fan of cross-platform game releases, and claims that releasing titles for PC’s, consoles and mobile devices can minimize profit risks. Simon Protheroe told MobileIndustry.biz that Eidos tends to see the games as brands rather and franchises rather than strictly as platform-specific titles.

“For example,” Protheroe says, “some of the mobile titles which we’re working on we’re starting to move to other platforms. There are a couple of things where we’ll definitely have PC download, handheld titles, cross-platform on Xbox Live Arcade.” He does concede, however, that there’s risk involved with launching games to the mobile market right now:

“Its a risk we’re willing to take, but the risk is still there,” he said.

“You’re cutting down on that risk slightly when you’re putting that title out on a number of different platforms at once. Thereby you’ve got a higher marketing spend, more awareness, cross-platform interactions and so on.”

Part one of the interview is currently up at MobileIndustry.biz, and part one will be published next week.
