Do bad console ports hurt the originals?

Tony Pearce
MobileIndustry.biz has followed up on their interview with Tony Pearce of Player X in which he states that bad ports of popular PC and console games could possibly damage the franchises that they’re spun off from. In this second article, MobileIndustry.biz talks to THQ Wireless’s marketing director, James Scalpello, who argues that Pearce isn’t seeing the big picture, as he explains…

“To be honest, I don’t agree at all. Firstly I don’t think that when people buy a mobile version of a console game - despite the fact that part of the reason they’re buying it is because they’ve see the console advertising - they expect to get the same experience.

So I don’t believe it’s damaging at all, especially if they’re a fan of that console game, and especially if it’s a sequel. Then it’s something additional to have on your phone which is a bonus rather than something negative.”

Scalpello has a lot more to say on the subject, including the subject of downloads, quality comparison and monetary competition. Worth a read, for sure.
