Filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh is happy to have a mobile game based on his film Home Delivery. “It’s a great thing that game developers are taking an interest in Bollywood-based themes for mobile games. This would definitely help increase the popularity of Indian movies,”he says, adding, “The game made on the characters of Home Delivery would give the film a greater recall value in the long run.”
“I am excited about this offer from a mobile game development company. But as the entire concept is totally new for me, I am not so sure about the effect of mobile gaming. For, if the game is a hit, it will certainly give the characters and the film a greater recall value. Otherwise, it could backfire and result in negative publicity.”
According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, however, mobile games on Bollywood themes are likely to prove beneficial for all – filmmakers, game developers and celebrities.
Statistically speaking, “The mobile gaming industry in India is pegged at Rs 70 crores, out of which only Rs 10 crore is spent on Bollywood-based games. But going by the trends, this segment is expected to touch the Rs 30 crore mark in the next two years,”as Mohit Sureka, CEO of the mobile game developing company that’s making a game software on the popular character of Circuit, puts it.
