There are a number of mobile game portals that have been opening up these days. Eventually, we’re going to eventually get around to reviewing them all. The latest portal is from Maxis Communications Bhd which has launched the country’s first subscription based mobile gaming and community portal known as MaxGames.
MaxGames runs on FunlogiXTM, the mobile gaming community platform developed by Ozura Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Mesdaq Market-listed Nexnation Communication Berhad.
In a joint statement Oct 19, Maxis and Ozura said mobile gaming, a multi billion dollar industry overseas, was fast becoming a staple among Malaysian mobile users.
“In line with this, Maxis hopes to spur gaming in the country with MaxGames, an interactive gaming and community portal which offers subscribers’ a host of benefits and services including tournament games, multiplayer gaming, clubs and blogs, and a virtual gift shop,”
MaxGames’ first batch of tournament games is the Dongeng Series which will run until December. The Dongeng Series is a group of five games based on popular Malaysian folklores namely Puteri Gunung Ledang, Pontianak, Badang, Mahsuri and Naga Tasik Chini.
The portal will also offer Ozura’s multiplayer game, “The Duel Online”. Another five multiplayer games are slated for release soon.
Maxis head of games and entertainment, Kee Saik Meng, said: “MaxGames is taking mobile gaming in Malaysia to another level, offering customers a one-stop portal which is user-friendly, packed with action, and constantly updated with the latest single and multiplayer games. Services are kept affordable and all traffic charges within the community are waived.”
Victor Jong, Ozura’s vice president said: “We are excited with the launch of MaxGames and are confident of a high adoption rate amongst Maxis’ subscribers, especially for those who has never downloaded any mobile games.
“The tournament games features simple yet addictive gameplay with the aim of appealing to casual gamers, which represents the largest group of mobile gamers today.
“We are also cognisant that phone model plays an integral part in the accessibility of content by users and as such, we took great efforts to ensure that mobile games and content with MaxGames will support a large portion of phone models in the market today”.
