Cellular News has released some financial statistics regarding China’s WAP and mobile games market. The figures show some slight decline in growth for Chinese WAP but also reveals some positive statistics about the mobile games market.
Figures from China’s CCW Research find that during Q3 2006, China’s WAP market size was RMB2.27 billion (US$289 million), 8.3% lower than that of Q2 2006. The size of WAP market includes business revenue made by mobile operators and SPs. In the last quarter, revenue by operators was RMB1.69 billion (US$214 million), and RMB580 (US$73.6) million by SPs. The decrease of SPs’ business revenue in Q3 resulted from the cut of revenue share from China Mobile.
The study by CCW Research also indicated that in Q3 2006, the size of China’s mobile game market reached RMB670 (US$85) million, 11.9% higher than Q2. This figure is based on the calculation of business revenue made by mobile operators and service providers, excluding the revenue by software developers.

In Q3 2006, short message game slowed down its development speed, but still took up 26.5 percent share of mobile game market with totally RMB180 (US$22.8) million. WAP, JAVA and BREW games kept high-speed development with RMB 280, 140 and 70 billion Yuan respectively.
In Q3 2006, information fee collected by China Mobile before revenue sharing with SPs was RMB110 (US$14) million. HURRAY is the number one SP who took up 9 percent market share. It is calculated that the top 10 manufactures held 55 percent market share in total.
