After having played the games for iPod, we had to interview Scott Rubin, vice president, sales & marketing for Namco Networks America. We wanted to know about what it is like working with Apple and a little about the Pac-Man game.
To begin the interview, we thought we would ask Scott what he thought having games on the iPod meant for Namco.
At Namco Networks, we are always exploring new wireless platforms for games. We believe PAC-MAN’s easy pick-up-and-play nature and instant fun will make it a top seller on the iPod, and we are sure that PAC-MAN fans will enjoy PAC-MAN on the iPod, many of which were already fans of PAC-MAN from its days in the arcade and, more recently, on mobile phones.
We enjoyed some of the games on the iPod and others not so much (we’ll hit you with a review shortly). We thought we would ask Scott what other games he thinks would work on the iPod in terms of playability and audience.
The up-down-left-right nature of PAC-MAN combined with its broad mass-market appeal makes it a great fit for the iPod. While we have not announced any future plans regarding other titles, we do think that other mass-market casual games would play and perform well on the iPod.
Working with one of the trendiest companies must be an exciting endeavour. We wanted to know what it feels like to work with a company such as Apple.
We are very excited to work with Apple. Much like us, Apple is known for quality and innovation. We worked very closely with Apple to ensure the quality of PAC-MAN was top notch. It was very important that the game play was as close to the original as possible, and we’re sure that PAC-MAN fans will enjoy PAC-MAN on the iPod.
The mobile gamer has some distinct demographics. We were curious about the iPod gamer and if they are the same person. What similarities and differences does the mobile gamer and iPod gamer have? What about the length of time they spend gaming?
We think the iPod gamer is very similar to the cell phone gamer. It is a mass-market audience looking for 5 minutes of fun on the go.
