iPod games
Once we heard that mobile game developers such as Namco were porting some of their games over to the iPod, we had to check it out. So I downloaded a full package of games onto my new iPod to give them a try. I’ll break down each game for you in this article and let you know what is worth buying. By the way, Texas Hold’em is absolutely fantastic.

Bejeweled
The controls for Bejeweled on the iPod are slightly better than for the mobile phone. To select the pieces which you would like to move, you have to scroll around horizontally to find the puzzle piece you would like to move. Once you get to the puzzle piece, you just touch the scroll wheel on the direction which you would like to move the piece. One of the better aspects of Bejeweled for the iPod is that fact that it is so incredibly sexy. The graphics are clean and everything is easy on the eyes.

Brick
This is one of the old iPod games that have been made to look a little nicer for the new iPod. It’s a straight forward pong-style brick bashing game. Maybe it’s just because I haven’t played Brick in a long time but I found this version to be really difficult. The ball moved much faster than I remember and the paddle was less responsive than I would have liked. Not a great Brick experience.

Cubis 2
This is a 3D cube game where you match cube colors to destroy rows and columns. It was probably the worst game I played for the iPod. The puzzles aren’t particularly hard, but the graphics make the game difficult to play. It is difficult to see all of the cubes and therefore there is an element of guessing in the game that is unnecessary. The controls were okay and therefore nothing to really complain about in that department. Like most iPod games, it’s graphically appealing.

Mahjong
This is a standard game of Mahjong. The major differences between this Mahjong game and others are the smooth graphics and ambient music. These are features that come almost standard on iPod games.

PAC-MAN
Pac-Man was actually very enjoyable on the iPod. At first it took a little while to get used to the controls but it quickly became a typical game of Pac-Man. Since you are controlling the game with the wheel, maneuvering Pac-Man seems more fluid and turns are a little more intuitive. I like to think of it as driving a Pac-Man car. There is no background music but all of the classic sounds are there, including the siren and WAC WAC WAC.
