ELSPA has announced the June 2006 Mobile Games Java Download Chart©, compiled from information supplied by: 3, O2, Orange,T-Mobile, and Vodafone. I have several problems with the top ten list and it is clear that the chart doesn’t reflect what games are actually good.
The list is as follows:
1. Tetris (EA Mobile)
2. Worms (THQ Wireless)
3. Sonic The Hedgehog: Part One (Glu Mobile)
4. FIFA World Cup Germany 2006 (EA Mobile)
5. The Sims 2 (EA Mobile)
6. Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? 2nd Ed. (Glu Mobile)
7. Championship Manager 2006 (Eidos Mobile)
8. The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift (I-play)
9. Block Breaker Deluxe (Gameloft)
10. Monopoly (Glu Mobile)
The first thing that stands out is “Sims 2″ has placed 5th! What? That game was just awful! Block Breaker Deluxe was clearly better than this game. Also, where are any of the standard games such as chess, poker or sudoku? Poker games have had incredible success on the mobile platform and they’re nowhere to be seen.
There are a few games on there that I can’t really comment on because I haven’t played them such as The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift and Championship Manager 2006. Perhaps these games merit being numbers 8 and 7 respectively but that doesn’t seem to say much.
