The hotness section is dedicated to the mobile games that we believe have contributed something significant to the industry. Whether the game has a unique user interface, creative concept or an innovative design, hotness will push the industry forward in some way. Insaniquarium is the quintessential hotness. This game is so highly addictive that I’m worried about the 18 million users who have already downloaded it.
Insaniquarium is a resource management type of game where you raise fish in a tank and protect them from invading aliens. Raising your fish properly and defending them from aliens makes them drop money which you use to buy resources. By upgrading your weapons, food, fish and tools, you eventually beat the stage and as a prize receive a new fish to help you through the next stages.
After playing this game for about 20 minutes, I found myself actually yelling at my phone and cursing to my god each time an alien managed to kill one of my beloved fish. The ensuing heart palpitations made me realize that I was indeed playing a game worthy of the hotness title.
There are 2 modes in Insaniquarium: Adventure and time trial. The adventure mode is the mode I just described. Time trial mode is where you have to make as much money from your fish as possible in the time allotted. Time trial is not nearly as fun as the other mode but it is a nice distraction.
The only criticism of the game that I am able to offer is that you cannot save during a level. This means that you must complete a level before your game is saved. If you are playing the game while on the bus, you better make sure that you either miss your stop or you beat the level before quitting the game.
We don’t normally do press releases about games that are going to come out for mobile because we figure “why tell people about a game we have never played and may not be good?” Insaniquarium was one of the few games that we have done that for and we do not regret it. This game was one of the most fun mobile games I have ever played.
