Glu’s Acquisition of iFone

gluIn an interview with mobileindustry.biz, Gred Ballard, CEO of Glu, gives some insight into Glu’s corporate strategy. Glu is making an attempt at becoming the global market leaders in mobile games publishing. To do this, they have acquired iFone.

“The iFone acquisition combined with the growing traction Glu has had over the past year worked to solidify our position in the top 3 publishers worldwide, and clearly established us as the leading independent mobile publisher globally,” says Ballard.

“We feel really good about our current position as well as our potential,” he added.

With the integration of iFone’s assets and IP - including high profile and massively popular licenses such as Monopoly, Sonic the Hedgehog and a slew of Atari Classics - Ballard is confident that the publisher can eventually snatch the lead from industry behemoth Electronic Arts.

“The US is the only market in which EA Mobile is leading; Glu continues to out-sell EA Mobile in Europe, Asia and Latin America and we feel strongly that our position will penetrate to the US,” Ballard continued.
