Kragesoft Sudoku

Kragesoft
Kragesoft has made a standard Sudoku game with few frills. Graphically, this is a solid looking game that provides some decent Sudoku entertainment but it has its drawbacks.

The most obvious criticism of this game is its pip marking system. If you want to make a mark in one of the squares with a note, then you press the 2 different numbers that could be in that space. Lets say you were to input 3 and 5 in a single square. The result would be 2 little pips in the square corresponding to that number’s position on the phone’s keypad. Strange isn’t it?

In terms of difficulty, this game has 7 different levels. In order to advance through the puzzles, you must first complete puzzles in the order that they are generated. For this reason it wasn’t obvious how many puzzles are contained in the game (Editor’s note: Kragesoft has clarified that each level contains exactly 100 puzzles which were carefully pregenerated). It seems like a finite amount. The hardest difficulty setting was hard but it wasn’t evil. I making this judgement based on some of the incredibly difficult puzzles I found on the internet. For some really challenging Sudoku puzzles, you can visit this site.

You can actually enter the wrong digit in a space but the game will check the trivial rules of Sudoku to try and save you time. For example, only a unique digit can be in the row, the column or the block. This poses some problems such as the following situation: I have 2 open spaces with 1 potential number that will go in either of those spaces. I’m not sure where to put the number so I try to input the same number in both spots to remind myself of this situation later. This is impossible because you cannot input the same number twice in one row. Therefore, I have to input 2 numbers in order to go to the pip system. This whole process is way more complicated then it had to be. Another thing I like to look for in a Sudoku game is whether or not the board view can be manipulated. This board wasn’t.

Overall this was a standard Sudoku game that doesn’t have much to set itself apart from the competition. This game costs $5.99 and can be bought here.
